We previously announced the birth of two Grevy’s zebra foals that were born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The foals have been named Youka and Zalika. We are so excited that they have finally made their public debut at the theme park in Walt Disney World. The two foals are now out in their guest-facing home located on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.

Check out these beautiful foals with their moms!
The animals at the park have an extremely dedicated animal care team. The team shared that Laylee’s foal, Youka, is very curious and independent, while Zuri’s foal, Zalika, is a little more on the bashful side. The foals are learning each and every day from their moms. They try to copy everything that their moms do so that they learn how to care for themselves.
Laylee and Zuri have both been confirmed by the keepers to be very good moms to their foals. Zuri appears to be the more hovering type of mom, while Laylee is curious, just like her foal, Youka.
Unfortunately these beautiful zebras are also the most endangered of all of the zebra species. These beautiful foals were born as part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP) program to help ensure that we keep these amazing animals around for the years to come.
Next time you are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, be sure to head over and meet Youka and Zalika!
