How to Draw Olaf From Frozen

Olaf has become one of the most beloved Disney characters since his first debut in Frozen, and then again in Frozen 2. He’s the friendliest, bravest, and funniest snowman we know! Since summer is just around the corner, and we all know Olaf loves all things hot, we thought we’d share a “Draw with Disney Animation” video so you too can create Olaf at home. Check out the video as shared by Frozen Supervising Animator, Hyrum Osmond.

Here, Frozen Supervising Animator Hyrum Osmond walks us through the steps of bringing Olaf to life on the page! When Hyrum was working on Frozen, it was his job to collaborate with a team of animators specifically on how Olaf should appear — everything from how he moves to what facial expressions he makes. He was even involved in some early feedback on Olaf’s overall design. (For example, did you know that initially Olaf’s teeth were made of ice instead of snow?)

This tutorial is so much fun — not just to draw, but also to learn some fun facts you may not know about Olaf! Hyrum opens up about how Olaf’s character changed as the movie developed, what Josh Gad brought to the role of Olaf, and a very personal contribution made by his son to how Olaf moves!

About Mike/ Jamie

We are Disney nerds. Two kids at heart who love the magic and the memories of Walt Disney World! We follow all things Disney and have great experiences with Disney Vacation Club and RunDisney events in particular. We enjoy the vacations, day trips, weekend getaways and geek out over the planning of such events. From lodging to dining to Fastpasses we have a spreadsheet for every occasion. Mike’s frivolous Disney goal is to acquire a magic band of every style while Jamie’s goal is to experience as many Disney desserts as possible. Usually there isn’t a day that passes without some discussion of the master plan of our next trip to the happiest place on earth. Most people think we’re normal – until they travel to Disney with us. We have been married for 16 years and are blessed with a daughter and a son who have already learned the importance of planning ahead! As a family we thoroughly enjoy the magic and the memories at Walt Disney World and are here to help others experience the magic as well.
