How Well Do You Know the Walt Disney World Resorts?

A stay at one of the Walt Disney World resorts is a big part of the Disney experience.  There is so much fun and magic to be had at the resorts, too!  How well do you actually know the Walt Disney World resorts?

10. Which resorts connect to the Disney Skyliner?

The Disney Skyliner, a state-of-the-art gondola system, connects a variety of the Disney World resorts to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  The system connects Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort. This is a huge perk when staying at any of these resorts.

9. What are the different categories of resorts?

There are value, moderate, deluxe and deluxe villas.  The value resorts are typically the lowest in cost and will offer the least amount of extra amenities.  The moderate is the next level up and will cost slightly more and offer a few more amenities.  The deluxe resorts are among the most expensive resort and will also offer the most amenities.  The deluxe villas are typically located with the deluxe resorts and feature suites for guests that have larger parties or need kitchen and/or laundry facilities available to them in their rooms.

8. Are the Disney Springs hotels also considered Walt Disney World Resorts?

There are a variety of Disney Springs area hotels that aren’t owned by Disney.  These resort guests receive some perks, but not the same as all of the guests at Walt Disney World Resorts.  These resorts aren’t considered the same as the Walt Disney World resorts, but are still located on Disney property.  They are typically more affordable that some of the actual Disney resorts, so they can be great options for some families.

7. Is airport transportation available to and from the Disney World resorts?

If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, you will be able to travel to and from the airport via Disney’s Magical Express.  The service is included in all resort reservations for the entire party listed on the reservation.  They even handle getting your checked bags at the airport delivered to your room and you can even check your luggage at some of the resorts so that you don’t have to worry about checking it once you get to the airport.

6. Which resorts are accessible via the monorail?

The monorail resorts are extremely popular and offer some of the most luxurious stays at Walt Disney World. One of the major perks to these resorts is the monorail transportation, which transports guests to and from Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot.  These resorts are Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

5. What perks are offered to Disney resort guests?

There are a variety of great perks and offerings for Disney resort guests.  There are resort amenities like tours, yoga classes, swimming activities, campfires, etc. These all vary depending on which resort you are staying at.  There is free transportation to and from the theme parks and other areas around Walt Disney World for all resort guests that is either bus, boat, monorail, and/or Skyliner.  Resort guests also get to book their dining and FastPass+ reservations ahead of non-resort guests.   One of my favorite perks is the Extra Magic Hours offering which allows resort guests extra time in the theme parks before or after park opening in a select park on select days.

4. Can anyone dine at resort restaurant locations?

Anyone can visit the resorts and dine at the dining locations.  The table service dining locations are eligible for advanced dining reservations and anyone can make those if they are available.  The pool areas at each resort are exclusive to resort guests and will require a Magic Band with an active resort reservation at that resort in order to enter the area.

3. Is there club or concierge level offered at the resorts?

For guests that would like some of the most luxurious accommodations, there are club level options available.  Club level is only available at deluxe Disney resorts and are more expensive than the regular rooms at the resorts.  Club level guests receive a special check-in, assistance making dining reservations and FastPass+, special add-on options for purchase, access to the club lounge which offers complimentary food and drink options, nightly turndown service and more. If you enjoy additional perks, this may be a great option for you if you have the budget for it.

2. What is Disney Vacation Club?

Disney Vacation Club is Disney’s version of a timeshare offering.  Guests who buy into the club are able to use their points for stays at Disney Vacation Club resorts, which are also the deluxe villa resorts.  These guests also receive discounts and other perks that are exclusive for Disney Vacation Club members.  This can be a great option for guests who visit Disney locations frequently and prefer to stay in deluxe accommodations.

1. Which resorts offer boat transportation options?

We covered the monorail and Disney Skyliner, but we can’t forget about the boat transportation options.  There is boat transportation from Disney’s Yacht Club, Disney’s Beach Club and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn (also Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotels which are not owned by Disney) which takes guests to and from the Epcot World Showcase entrance and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  There are also resorts that have boat transportation to and from Disney Springs, which include the Port Orleans Resorts, Disney’s Saratoga Springs, and Disney’s Old Key West.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
