Luke Evans Discusses His Role in Upcoming Pinocchio Disney+ Film

A live-action version of Pinocchio is currently in the works for Disney+.  This film will use state-of-the-art CGI to bring Pinocchio to life.

In the film, we know that we will see Tom Hanks as Gheppto, Cynthia Erivo playing The Blue Fairy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will provide the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Key will play Honest John, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play the title character of Pinocchio.

We just learned that Luke Evans will be starring as the Coachman; however, in this new version we will see a slightly different version of the coachman.  In a recent interview, Evans provided some additional information on his upcoming role.

“Thankfully, he [live-action Coachman] looks nothing like the character in the animation.  In the mind of Bob Zemeckis [Pinocchio], you can imagine, the things are not going to be the same as they were in the animation. They’re very good. The storyline is very, very similar. But there were certain characters that Bob was able to, you know, dramatically enhance and the coachman is one of those. I get to use all my musical theater, experience and skills in this character. I can’t tell you too much because I want it to be a surprise. But there are some really wonderful gifts that he gave me as an actor with the character. You see a coachman in many different ways. I don’t want to give any more than that. But he isn’t just the average human being if that means anything to you. He’s a very unusual creature is rather terrifying. I mean, if you think Gaston is scary, wait til you meet Coachman.”

We look forward to seeing Evans in this role, but also in the upcoming prequel series for Beauty and the Beast where he will be coming back as Gaston!

The new “Pinocchio” film is going to be coming to Disney+ in 2022, and the original animated classic is available to watch now on Disney+.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
