On Disney Park’s twitter they introduced us to a new member of the animal family at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Greta was born on July 12th, 2021, to mom Tuma. You can maybe get a glimpse of Greta on Kilimanjaro Safari.
Her brother’s names are Hans and Augustus, so her name fits in with the heritage theme of the hippo family. Disney says that she started out extremely shy but has recently been coming out of her shell and becoming more outgoing. She’s Becoming braver and more playful. She’s also been interacting with her family in other members in the bloat. For those that don’t know, a bloat is a group of hippos. She has a great relationship with her mother, and you might get to see them interacting.
Disney is very passionate about saving animals. You can do your part to help animals there as well as in the wild. Some things you can do to help are reduce waste by recycling your old electronics to reduce mining in habitats. You can also learn more about how you and Disney can make a difference at Disney Conservation.
Here are some facts you may not have known about hippos. An adult hippo weighs between 2500 and 5500 lb. These mammals do not swim but instead, walk on the bottom of the water and can hold their breath up to five minutes. Hippos like shade, so at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there are plenty of spots where they can sit back and relax in the shade as well as areas to explore. Walt Disney World also has the best veterinary care at the Park. These trained caregivers make sure that they are healthy and have everything they need. They also make sure that they are on a healthy diet.
