Imagineer Zach Riddley shared on Instagram Mouse as Muse Art Pieces that have been installed in the Creations Shop, which opens on September 15th, 2021, at EPCOT. To quote Zach, here is what he posted:
“Today I am proud to reveal three more of our Mouse as Muse art pieces installed in Creations Shop opening tomorrow, September 15th at EPCOT!
Each Imagineering artist brought their personal touch and inspiration to this assignment. And each sculpture is as unique and varied as the talents that brought these to life.
In order of the photos, here’s what each artist shared as their inspiration:
First up, this artist drew dual inspiration from childhood wonder she felt meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time, and as an ode to the curio collections of her mother – deeply influential forces of love and family that merged to create stunningly original work as beautiful as it is rich in meaning. This Mickey features sculpted and painted floral motifs and birds emerging from the surface to add dimension and life to this sculpture. Even up close it’s hard to believe this is a painted effect and not a piece of fine porcelain!
Our next Imagineer was inspired by memories of her childhood visits to Walt Disney World and the tropical Florida environment and horticulture. This look of hand-carved, aged wood is cleverly achieved through epoxy sculpting, which provides the texture of carved wood along with a weathered paint application. It serves as a tribute to opening day experiences like Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Our last artist combined his love of Mickey Mouse and classic cars to create this art piece. Mickey’s classic colors shine through finishing techniques of freehand airbrushing of metallic and iridescent sheens found in classic automotive painting tradition. The effect gives this sculpture a permanent glow that can only be rendered through exacting craftsmanship developed over years of practice.
As you can see, inspiration and creativity come in all forms. That’s the spirit we want to capture and celebrate at EPCOT. I look forward to sharing more behind-the-scenes inspiration for our six remaining Mickey as Muse sculptures very soon!”
