So many things have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic. Cruising was such a relaxing and stress free way to travel. Once COVID-19 hit, things got a little more complicated for the cruise industry. They shut down for quite some time, and when they reopened, it looked much different than many were used to.
I recently traveled with Disney Cruise Line and had an incredible Star Wars Day at Sea vacation on the beautiful Disney Fantasy. It can be very confusing to know the new procedures in place, so I’m going to break down what it looks like with the new COVID-19 guidelines.
First off, everyone five and older must be fully vaccinated to travel on Disney Cruise Line. You will be required to upload your vaccine card to the Safe Passage website, and it will be verified. You are also required to upload a recent photo of yourself which will be used in their system.
We decided to quarantine at our house for 14 days to ensure that we would not test positive at the Port. Once you arrive at the Port, all Guests must take a COVID-19 test. If ANYONE in your travel party test positive, NO ONE from your group can board. If this happens, Disney will work with you on rescheduling or giving you a refund.
The testing process was very simple. We heard from some Guests that they walked into a tent for their test, but they asked us to stay in our car and pull into the parking garage. Everything was done inside our vehicle, and they told us we would have our results in 45 minutes. They send your results through email. We had tested at home the morning before we left, but that is still a very nerve racking 45 minutes.
Once we got the all clear, we grabbed our bags, and we were able to board the ship. You are required to wear face coverings at all times while indoors, and there are social distancing markers on the ground.
Although many think that traveling on a cruise ship is not safe, we felt extremely safe with Disney Cruise Line. Tables and markers are spaced out a part, and a lot of what you can do is also outdoors on the deck.
I’ll be breaking it down for you, and this is just part one of the series about my Disney Cruise Line experience. Very excited to share the adventure with you.
