The Process Begins NEXT WEEK for Massive Disney Expansion!

Disneyland Forward Detailed Plan

Walt Disney himself said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” Beginning January 23, 2024, the DisneylandForward project begins to take root.

Disneyland Resort

In 1955, legendary creator and innovator Walt Disney opened a theme park that would change the world. Disneyland was the first of its kind and has always been imitated by others but never duplicated.

Disneyland Park took guests from the real world and vaulted them into a “world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” Since then, Disneyland Resort has expanded to include Disney California Adventure and the Downtown Disney District, which opened in 2001.

Disneyland was built in the city of Anaheim, California, which was largely farmland when Walt decided to create The Happiest Place on Earth. However, the area has been incredibly built up and is full of hotels and restaurants. That makes it incredibly difficult to expand the Parks and bring more magic to people.

But Disney is determined to try.

DisneylandForward Announced

In 2021, Disney announced plans for DisneylandForward — a massive expansion of Walt’s original dream.

DisneylandForward would expand Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, as well as the Downtown Disney District and hotel areas. It would be the largest expansion Disneyland Resort has seen since the opening of DCA.

Since the DisneylandForward announcement, Disney has been relatively mum. However, that changed on September 14, 2023, when the DisneylandForward environmental impact report was released. The 17,000-page document contained A LOT of information, including more details on what Disney was planning for the area.

New Attractions and More!

According to the report, the North Expansion will include 3 Outdoor Family rides, 2 Indoor Family rides, 2 “round” rides, 1 Outdoor Thrill ride, and 1 Indoor Thrill ride. The South Expansion will have 3 Outdoor Family rides, 2 Indoor Family rides, 2 “round” rides, 1 Outdoor Thrill ride, and 1 Indoor Thrill ride. That means more than a dozen rides will be added!

On another exciting note, it is possible that Disneyland Resort guests will be able to enjoy a Skyliner similar to the one at Walt Disney World Resort!

The DisneylandForward plan talks about pedestrian bridges and walkways. However, it also mentions “themed ride crossings.” The Skyliner is a line of aerial gondolas that take guests from several Walt Disney World Resort hotels — like Caribbean Beach and Riviera Resort — to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney even shared a picture of the Orlando, Florida, Disney Skyliner in the report to show an example of a “themed ride crossing.”

A Massive Expansion

The plan for DisneylandForward will expand upon the land already owned by Disney in the area. Disneyland Resort is 490 acres, and some of it is undeveloped.

DisneylandForward will utilize that undeveloped land. The plans also include the Toy Story Parking Lot area, which is not directly connected to the Resort. The Toy Story Parking Lot area is located down the street from the Resort, across from the Anaheim Convention Center.

The DisneylandForward environmental impact report did state that the massive construction plan would have “significant” impacts on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and noise. But there would also be a number of conservation efforts during the construction in terms of energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainability efforts. Many of those conservation efforts are already in place at the Resort.

Public Workshop Announced

Now, the processes for DisneylandForward are beginning! According to a report:

“The City of Anaheim City Council is scheduled to conduct a public workshop to discuss the DisneylandForward project. Disney officials have not said when they plan to start construction on DisneylandForward or when they would like to see the new areas open, but this is a good sign that the project is beginning to take shape. You can read more on Disney’s huge plans for Disneyland Resort by clicking here.
