Guests that are planning to visit Walt Disney World and fly in through Orlando International airport maybe feeling a little bit apprehensive after the tragic shooting that occurred further south in Fort Lauderdale, FL early today, January 6th, 2017. The shooting has left 5 dead with more injured. The shooter has been apprehended, but no motive for this attack or information as to how this could occur has been released. Fort Lauderdale airport is closed, but Orlando International is still in operation with no impacts to scheduled flights. The officials have stated that there are no operation procedure changes at this time, but that surveillance, presence of law enforcement and vigilance are all being increased to help to protect all of the passengers coming and going from the airport.

Here is a statement released by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority:
“In light of the reported incident at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport today, Airport personnel are aware of the situation and are taking appropriate actions. While there have been no federal directives, there is heightened surveillance in the terminal. All agencies federal, local law enforcement and airport security representatives are engaged and are monitoring airport activity closely. Security is everyone’s responsibility and airport users are reminded, “If you see something say something. ” There are 6 flights daily during the week between two airlines Spirit (2) and Silver (4) airlines that serve to connect Orlando and Ft Lauderdale. At this time there has been no impact on airport operations.”
