It looks like the payment systems are all being replaced at merchandise locations, food locations, resorts, etc. around Walt Disney World locations. Previously guests would either hand over their card to a Disney cast member, swipe it at the little device on the counter or tap their Magic Band to one of the Mickey head devices that rested on the counter. We are hearing that the company that developed that device went out of business, so Disney wasn’t able to get the maintenance and support that they would need to keep using such a device.

These new devices were created to do it all. They are still operational with Magic Bands, with the Magic Band able to be tapped to the flat space on the station. There is also a chip reader in the device so that cards with chips will be run in that manner. The large screen on the device allows you to better see your price detail before you complete your purchase. They look to be a bit on the large side, so it looks like they take up a lot of counter space, which could be a problem at some of the locations. We haven’t heard of any other changes associated with adding these devices around property.
