Disney has filed permits to start construction on an elevated gondola system that would reside within Walt Disney World. From the permit it appears that it would actually service Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Caribbean Beach Resort and Art of Animation Resort. The purpose would appear to be a mass transportation solution within Walt Disney World, which would be in addition to the monorail, buses and waterway transportation. It isn’t surprising that Disney would look to provide additional transportation options to Disney’s Hollywood Studios given the amount of construction and development that is currently happening at the theme park to completely re-theme and re-design the park.

Disney has declined to expand the monorail thus far due to the cost associated with an expansion. The gondola system appears to be a more cost effective option, which is likely why they will be moving in this direction. Guests get frustrated with the wait times for bus transportation, while the monorail and waterway transportation seems to be a big hit and preferred over buses when available.
What do you all think of this new aerial gondola system and the plan for Walt Disney World?
