It’s been a rough go of it lately for the cast of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. After Amber Heard accused Pirates star Johnny Depp of abuse, it appeared the franchise was doomed.
However, rumors have started to swirl that the franchise would be revived, first without Depp and then with Depp returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. But now accusations are swirling around another Pirates of the Caribbean star.
Kevin McNally, who played Joshamee Gibbs in the franchise, has been accused of domestic violence with the suspicion of inflicting an injury that caused a traumatic condition on a victim who was his current or former spouse, cohabitant, or child’s parent.
McNally, a British actor, was scheduled to appear at a Dr. Who convention in Los Angeles, but the event organizers alerted fans that his appearance was canceled. They did not give a reason for the cancellation.
The British Pirates star is married to actress Phyllis Logan, the star of Downton Abbey. It is unclear if Logan made the accusation of domestic abuse. The Sun reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department, but they did not respond to a request for comment.
Besides his work with Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean star Kevin McNally appeared alongside his wife in three episodes of Downton Abbey. The British actor has a long list of credits, including AMC’s Turn: Washington’s Spies, Fleabag, CSI, The Crown, and Doctor Who.
When Johnny Depp was going through his trial, McNally was one of the few Pirate actors to stand beside Captain Jack Sparrow. He said at the time:
I’ve never seen a hint of a dark side to him. I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment to him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow.
McNally was released on $50,000 bail. With these accusations of domestic abuse, it’s unclear if McNally will return for the sixth edition of Pirates, assuming there is one.
Rumors have been swirling around a new Pirates movie, including the casting of Margo Robbie and possibly The Bear star Ayo Edebiri replacing Depp. There have been reports about a script for the sixth installment; however, nothing official has come from Disney.
And while there have been rumors that Depp would be willing to return to the franchise for the right price, he has not confirmed any talks with Disney.
