On December 22, the Tokyo Disney Resort was unfortunately on the receiving end of bomb threats, leading to heightened police activity.
Recently, an incident of a more serious nature occurred at a global Disney park. The Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan received bomb threats, causing police in the area to step up security in order to protect guests and park-goers. Here’s the story.
Tokyo Disney Resort Receives Bomb Threats via Email
As reported by livedoor News, the Japan-based Disney Park was recently put through the wringer with a bomb threat. In particular, the city hall of Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture, received an email at 7:30 a.m. on December 22 that explained that a bomb had been planted at the Tokyo Disney Resort.
The email reportedly said there were “multiple highly lethal bombs had been planted” at the Disney resort.
In response to this threat, police heightened security in neighboring areas and were on high alert at specific JR (Japan Rail) stations, specifically the JR Maihama station and surrounding facilities.
When it comes to the reason for this threat, authorities assert it is retaliation against JR East, the operator of one of the JR lines in Tokyo, i.e. retaliation against announced service alterations on the JR Keiyo Line. As locals would know, there was a planned discontinuation of some rapid train services by JR East, the operator of the JR Keiyo Line.
Another news outlet reported that the email specifically mentioned this “as the motive behind the threat, framing it as a punitive act against the rail company.”
It’s important to note, per the latest reports, that no explosives were found, although law enforcement did take the threats seriously and conducted an in-depth investigation into the communication.
