Rafiki’s Planet Watch Rumored to Close Permanently at Walt Disney World

We are hearing reports online and from Walt Disney World cast members that Rafiki’s Planet Watch is set to close permanently very soon.  From what we are hearing, the final day for Rafiki’s Planet Watch, located within Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will be October 21st, 2018.  In order to prepare for the full closure of the area, the Rafiki and Doc McStuffins meet and greets are set to close permanently on September 29th, 2018.  At the time of this posting, we haven’t heard an official announcement from Disney on this.  We also haven’t heard yet what is expected to take over this entire space within the park.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom that is dedicated to conservation, animal care and learning more about animals.  The area is only accessible by taking a ride on the Wildlife Express Train to and from Rafiki’s Planet Watch.  There have been character meet and greets, live viewings of animal medical procedures, stage presentations, a petting zoo and even more fun.

It is very possible that Disney could want to use this space for some kind of new themed area, which would be pretty exciting!

Who would be sad to see Rafiki’s Planet Watch go?  What would you like to see in its place?

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
