Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Will Open on May 31st at Disneyland Resort and August 29th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We have an exciting announcement for those of who are anxiously awaiting the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World.  We finally have the opening dates for both lands!  Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland Resort on May 31st, 2019 and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World on August 29th, 2019.  This is an earlier opening than was previously anticipated!  Phase one of the opening will include the opening of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, plus a variety of shopping and food/beverage options.  There will also be a phase two to the opening later in the year where Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will debut.  This allows guests to begin enjoying Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge sooner than planned without waiting for the remaining attraction to be ready.

Guests who are planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31st and June 23rd will need valid theme park admission as well as make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, in order to access the land.  The information on how the reservation can be made will be available closer to the launch of the land.  Guests staying at one of the resorts on property will have a designated reservation to access the land.

There will not be a reservation required for guests visiting the Walt Disney World location at this time.  Capacity will be limited to the land and it is expected to reach maximum capacity.  The land will have Extra Magic Hours offered for resort guests.  More details on this will come closer to time.

Here are some great tips from Disney Parks Blog to help ensure the best experience when visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge:

Park Admission: Regular theme park admission is required to enter Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There will not be a separate ticket for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.   To visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park between May 31 and June 23, 2019, guests will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land.  We’ll share information on how to make a reservation at a later date on the Disney Parks Blog and on Disneyland.com.

Land Entry: Because we anticipate galactic excitement during the opening months this year, we are planning ahead to deliver the best possible experiences for our guests.  Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open during normal park operating hours. It will not be included in Extra Magic Hour or Magic Morning at Disneyland Park.  It will be available during Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Attractions: For your vacation planning purposes, please be aware that Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We will continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience.

Planning:  If you’re looking to book a vacation to the Disneyland Resort, visit Disneyland.com.  You should also note that vacation packages, park tickets and Disney Resort hotel stays do not guarantee access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.  The land —including participation in its experiences—will be subject to capacity restraints and other restrictions.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
