We got to see a panel with Linda Larkin, the original voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin, and John Morris, the original voice of Andy from Pixar’s Toy Story. They told us some funny stories and memories.
Linda Larkin shared the fact that when she got the role, she spelled Aladdin’s name wrong. She said there where she was in her life, she could connect even more with the character of Jasmine. It was an honor to do the voice because she was the first Disney Princess that did not sing and felt like she could pave the way. Guests were allowed to ask questions, and she was asked to describe Disney in one word, and her response was “magic”. Also, if she could be any other Disney character, it would be Minnie Mouse.
She shared a story that on the flight to Orlando, a little girl was wearing a Jasmine mask. She talked to the little girl and her family, but they had no idea they were actually talking to the voice of Jasmine. She said that seeing Jasmine was what she was most excited about with coming to Walt Disney World.
John Morris shared lots of stories as well. He said how he loves fan art and even had some around his house. When they were about to work on the new Toy Story, they called his phone to see if he would still be a good fit for Andy. He didn’t pick up, but his voicemail voice was enough the keep his role. He was asked to describe Disney in one word as well, and his word was “fun”. If he could be any other Disney character, it would either be Simba or Peter Pan.
They both recited some lines in their voices, and it was such an incredible experience hearing the characters we grew up with. These voice artists have truly been a part of the childhood of so many, and it’s a beautiful thing.
