We have learned of new technology coming to Walt Disney World and this time it will impact some of the PhotoPass opportunities. Guests use Disney’s PhotoPass to capture their vacation memories. Guests can then purchase the photos that are taken or download all of them with the Memory Maker add-on purchase. It appears that an automated PhotoPass opportunity will be coming to select character meet and greet locations. There will an automated camera to capture pictures of the guests with the character, and then there will be a kiosk where guests can view the image and touch their Magic Band to add the image to their digital images. This is similar to how ride photos are viewed and scanned at the end of select attractions.

The first location to receive the automated PhotoPass system is Magic Kingdom’s Town Square Theater. It is the first location in the planned 9 located that will switch over to the system. The Tinker Bell meet and greet within Magic Kingdom is the second location on the roll out schedule. Disney does not expect this roll out to eliminate the need for live PhotoPass photographers. There are still expected to be over 100 locations around Walt Disney World where live cast member photographers will be used to capture Disney PhotoPass photos. We are unsure if Disney will consider a roll out beyond the current 9 planned locations.
What do you think of this change to an automated PhotoPass system for select character meetings?
