Walt Disney World to Open Backstage Areas to View Wishes

As we have previously reported, Wishes will be performed for the last time on the evening of May 11th at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.  Happily Ever After is the new show that is set to take its place beginning on the evening of May 12th.  As we come closer to the last few nights that guest will have an opportunity to view Wishes, Disney expects to see an influx in the amount of guests normally in attendance.  The show has been a staple attraction at the park and beloved by so many guests over the years.  In order to accommodate the extra traffic flow, Disney plans to open backstage areas to provide more viewing room for guests in the streets.  The backstage route between Adventureland and Main Street, USA will be opened up as well as a backstage parking lot that is near Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. These backstage areas will be open on May 6th – May 12th.  The hope is that these extra viewing locations will create less traffic problems in the streets for the guests that are trying to move throughout the park.

As Disney prepares to open Happily Ever After they are performing test and practice runs in the late hours of the evening after the park has closed.  These reportedly take place between 11PM – 1AM.  We have heard from Central Florida news sources that local residents are quite irritated about the late night test runs and the fact that they have been running past 1AM. Disney has responded back and apologized for the disruption and that they would work to complete the testing early and not run as late.

We are excited to see the new firework show, but will be very sad to see Wishes go.  Be sure to get to the park while you can and see it one last time before it is gone.  We will keep you posted if any live streams are announced for those of you at home!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
