10 Reasons We Love Fall at Walt Disney World

Fall is a favorite time of the year for many guests around the globe.  It may still mostly be green and pretty in Central Florida, but Walt Disney World still gets into the spirit of things to bring fall to the parks.  Here are the top 10 reasons why we love fall at Walt Disney World:

10. Slightly cooler temperatures

You definitely won’t experience cold temperatures in the fall, but they will be a little bit cooler than what you would experience in the summer.  It also gets darker a little earlier than in the summer, so that helps cool off your park time in the evenings.

9. The fall decorations

The fall decorations are beautiful and definitely put you in the mood for the season.  The fun pumpkins and fall colors make for a great photo backdrop.  If you haven’t seen Walt Disney World in the fall, then you definitely need to check it out.

8. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

This is an extremely popular special ticketed event that takes place at Magic Kingdom Park.  During the party, guests get to enjoy trick-or-treating, themed music and entertainment, character interactions, special merchandise and more.  The event is offered on select nights after park closing and is definitely an event that you don’t want to miss!

7. Run in the Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend events

Each year in early November the Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend returns.  During this race weekend there a variety of race events including kids’ races, a 5K, a 10K and a half marathon.  The entire weekend is a lot of fun for the whole family and one that you won’t want to miss if you have wanted to run through Walt Disney World in a way that you haven’t experienced it before.

6. Experience fewer crowds

Since school is back in session and many guests took their vacations over the summer, there are often fewer crowds in the fall season at Walt Disney World.  Since there are fewer crowds, you can also usually get dining reservations and FastPass+ selections easier than during the more popular times of the year.

5. Fall merchandise available throughout the parks

You will find a great selection of fall and Halloween themed merchandise during the fall season at Walt Disney World.  The merchandise typically includes items like shirts, pins, hats, etc.  You will also find a lot of home décor items, dishes, costumes and more.  There are so many great merchandise options that all of you shoppers out there will have a ton of great things to check out.

4. Great vacation package deals and discounts

Since there are fewer crowds, there are typically a lot of great deals and discounts that are offered.  The fall is one of the most popular times when Disney offers the highly coveted Free Dining promotion.  There are also other room and package discounts that are offered in order to help encourage guests to visit Walt Disney World in the fall.

3. Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is amazing!

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is offered for a couple months in the fall.  During this event there is a variety of different entertainment including the Eat to the Beat concert series, culinary demonstrations, food and beverage kiosks, dining experiences and more.  It is a great time to visit Walt Disney World and you can spend days and still not sample all of the great offerings that the festival has to offer.

2. Delicious fall themed treats

During the fall season, Disney rolls out a variety of different themed treats.  You will find tons of great pumpkin offerings as well as treats that are decorated for fall.  They are delicious and perfect for the fall holiday season.

1. Christmas decorations make their debut in November

Even if you will be visiting Walt Disney World in the fall, you may still be able to check out the Christmas decorations.  The decorations start making their appearance in early November.  Magic Kingdom is the first park to receive their decorations since the Christmas parties start the first week of November.  Then the rest of the parks and resorts start to get their decorations up so that they are complete just before Thanksgiving.  It can be a great time to visit if you want to see the fall décor and the Christmas décor in the same trip.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
