5 Best Resorts for Kids at Walt Disney World

Any of the Disney resorts can be fun for kids, but there are definitely some that stick out above the others as options that seem to have even more magic and extras that the kids in your party will enjoy.  Here are the 5 best resorts for kids at Walt Disney World:

5. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

There are a different accommodations available that are equally fun for the kiddos.  There are campsites and the cabins.  With the campsites you can tent camp or bring your RV.  With the cabins, you have a cabin with a kitchen and accommodations for up to 6 people.  This makes Fort Wilderness a great option if you have more than 4 in your party, too.  Camping and being closer to nature is a lot of fun for kids and very relaxing after spending time in the theme parks. The resort also features a variety of activities including a campfire sing-a-long with Chip and Dale, bike riding, horseshoes, the horse stables, wagon rides and more.

4. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

This resort is absolutely gorgeous!  The entire resort is inspired by African culture and elements.  The resort is also next to the “African savanna” where guests can catch a glimpse of the animals that live there, like the amazing giraffes.  Guests staying in the resort get to watch these beautiful animals right from their resort.  There are even rooms where you can watch them from your own balcony.  There are also a variety of great activities at the resort the kids will enjoy.  These include activities like cupcake decorating, storytelling, campfires, animal encounters, animal education and more.  There are so many unique offerings that you wouldn’t find at any of the other resorts.  Since the resort is also two resorts in one (Jambo House and Kidani Village) there are also two large feature pools, quiet pools and a splash pad, so you can let the kiddos enjoy pool time, too.

3. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

This resort has quickly become a favorite resort for many guests traveling with their families.  The theming for the resort is extremely fun, plus there are suites available for larger families that could benefit from an extra bathroom, kitchen and extra sleeping space.  There are three unique areas within the resort:  The Little Mermaid, Cars, Finding Nemo and The Lion King.  Depending on which area you are staying in, the room is themed and decorated after that movie which makes it extra fun for the kids (and Disney-loving adults).  Kids will want to listen closely when enjoying the feature pool in the Finding Nemo area, as they may hear some of their favorite characters from Finding Nemo talking!  If the kids would like feeling like they are staying within a Disney movie, then this is definitely going to get them excited.  The Disney Skyliner is a huge asset to this resort as it transports guests to and from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. Kids love the Skyliner “ride”!

2. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

This is a favorite resort of ours for so many reasons.  This resort is great for all types of groups, but it is definitely a great option for kids.  The theme of the resort transports you to the Polynesian islands!  The standard rooms can accommodate 5 guests, which is helpful if you have a larger group. There are a variety of view options including standard, lagoon and theme park view. The resort is across the lagoon from Magic Kingdom Park, so you can actually watch the fireworks from your resort.  This is great when you have younger kids or have had a long day but still want to see the fireworks without waiting with the crowds inside the park.  The main feature pool for the resort has a large volcano which is a water slide, plus a splash pad.  All of this directly faces Cinderella Castle for an extra magical experience.  There are a variety of great activities available, too, like: storytelling, learning to hula, campfires, a real Hawaiian luau, yoga and so much more.  The transportation options that are available make this resort extremely convenient to get the kids around Walt Disney World property, too.  These options include bus, boat and monorail transportation to the theme parks and other resorts around property.

1. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

We love this resort for the fun theming! Anyone who is a pirates fan would love the pirate themed resort rooms that are available.  There are also other room times with different views and location options.  The feature pool reminds you of a scene right out of Pirates of the Caribbean, which is a lot of fun!  The resort previously only had bus transportation, but the Disney Skyliner is the newest form of transportation which takes guests to and from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and other Disney resorts in the area.  This is a great feature for families to get to their destination with ease.  There are of course a lot of great activities including pool games, campfires, movies, playing in the sand and more.  The kiddos definitely won’t get bored from exploring Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
