7 Rookie Mistakes People Make At Disney’s Epcot

By Caitlin Corsello

One of the most popular theme parks in Walt Disney World is Epcot thanks to the amazing experiences and attractions that guests can enjoy. Epcot features two different areas which come together to form the park that many guests love. Future World celebrates the combination of technology and nature and World Showcase celebrates different cultures from around the world. Guests who spend time in Epcot can enjoy experiences like diving into the oceans, traveling back in time, blasting off into space, traveling the world, hang gliding over beautiful sights, and designing their own cars. With so many amazing things to experience in the park guests want to avoid any rookie mistakes and make the most of each moment. Here are seven rookie mistakes that guests make at Disney’s Epcot which can easily be avoided.

7. Not Arriving For Rope Drop –

One of the biggest rookie mistakes that guests make at any of the Walt Disney World theme parks is not arriving for rope drop. Arriving for rope drop entails guests getting to the gates of Epcot before the park is set to open to the public for the day. By arriving early, guests are treated to a welcome speech hinting at all of the amazing experiences that can be enjoyed once inside. Guests who arrive for rope drop at Epcot can also ensure that they are some of the first guests inside the park and are rewarded with few crowds, low wait times, and empty walkways.

6. Doing Spaceship Earth First –

A rookie mistake many guests are guilty of is heading straight to Spaceship Earth once inside of Epcot. Guests should by no means skip Spaceship Earth, but nearly everyone entering into the park heads straight for this attraction since it is located just inside the gates. With so many people headed towards the same thing, Spaceship Earth tends to have a longer wait time than normal and guests who get on line then end up losing some time that could otherwise be spent enjoying the park. Guests who enter into Epcot in the morning instead should head elsewhere in the park and later return to Spaceship Earth to enjoy it when many other guests aren’t waiting on line.

5. Not Using A FastPass For Soarin’ –

One of the most popular attractions in Epcot can be found on the lower level of The Land Pavilion in Future World. Soarin’ brings guests on a hang gliding adventure over beautiful sights all over the world! Since the attraction is so popular, the wait time can easily exceed two hours on a busy day in the park. Guests who are looking to avoid a rookie mistake should definitely use a FastPass to enjoy Soarin’ with little to no wait time and use the time that otherwise would have been spent waiting on line enjoying other areas of the park.

4. Not Using The Single Rider Line For Test Track Presented By Chevrolet –

Several attractions throughout Walt Disney World feature Single Rider Lines which are often overlooked by rookies. Single Rider Lines allow guests to enjoy popular attractions with much lower wait times so long as they don’t mind their party being split up. Test Track Presented by Chevrolet in Epcot invites guests into the design studio where they can create their own SIM car and test it on the track in Power, Responsiveness, Capability, and Efficiency. Since the attraction is very popular and wait times can be high, guests should definitely take advantage of the Single Rider Line and enjoy the attraction with a lower wait time and use the time that would have otherwise been spent waiting on line enjoying other areas of Epcot.

3. Not Taking Their Time In World Showcase –

The entire rear of Epcot is home to World Showcase which features eleven different pavilions each highlighting a particular country full of culture, history, architecture, and beautiful details. A rookie mistake that many guests are guilty of is not taking their time to explore World Showcase fully. Each pavilion has amazing details, areas to explore, dining options, shopping locations, and entertainment, and several have attractions to enjoy. Guests should dedicate plenty of time to simply wandering through each pavilion and enjoying the atmosphere.

2. Not Enjoying A Meal In World Showcase –

Each pavilion in World Showcase is home to at least one full service meal and each location serves up authentic cuisine which sometimes can’t be found elsewhere in Walt Disney World. A rookie mistake that guests make while visiting Epcot is not stopping to enjoy a meal in World Showcase. Guests who do stop to enjoy a meal can choose from locations including Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada, Nine Dragons Restaurant in China, Monsieur Paul in France, and the Biergarten Restaurant in Germany.

1. Skipping Illuminations: Reflections Of Earth –

No day in Epcot is complete without a viewing of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth which takes place each night on World Showcase Lagoon. The show gathers guests around the fire to tell a story of unity through pyrotechnics, laser lights, fireworks, beautiful music, and dancing water. Guests can find amazing viewing spots all around World Showcase Lagoon and should choose a spot up to an hour before the show is set to start as it is very popular and tends to be crowded. The perfect way to end a day in Epcot is watching Illuminations: Reflections of Earth!
