Disney’s Hollywood Studios really does have a lot to do when you consider all of the different shows and trying to coordinate getting to see and do everything during a single day. It requires coordination and planning to pull it off, but it is well worth it! Here are tips for getting the most out of a single day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

7. Be there for rope drop.

To get the most out of your day, you definitely want to be there before opening so that you are ready to go. One way to do this is to book one of the 8:05AM breakfast reservations at Hollywood and Vine. This way you will be fed and ready to get going. You will also get inside the park before other guests, which is a plus. Another way is just to get there early so that you are through security and ticketing and waiting at the ropes before opening. That way you are among the first let into the park and can get started on your day. Use the time you are waiting there to plan your day and determine the order you will head to various attractions.

6. Head to Toy Story Midway Mania first.

If you are there at rope drop, then I recommend heading to Toy Story Midway Mania first (especially if you don’t have a FastPass+, but even if you do, it’s a great opportunity to experience it twice). You will want to rush there, but DON’T RUN! Just set yourself up to head there quickly so that you can get on the ride quickly and without the waits that the attraction typically maintains all day every day.

5. Check the Times Guide to plan show times.

There are many different shows and timed encounters at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You will want to check the times and plan ahead since the times and number of shows per day vary for each attraction. Try to plan your show times around your FastPass+ and in a manner that prevents you from walking back and forth across the park. For example, we typically plan to watch Beauty and the Beast around when we have FastPasses for Tower of Terror or Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster. This keeps us in that same area for a little bit and is more efficient.

4. Use FastPass+ wisely.

Your FastPass+ selections will depend entirely on what you prefer to ride the most. It can be difficult to make selections since you can only select 1 option from the 1st category of options and then 2 options from the 2nd category. Toy Story Midway Mania, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, Fantasmic!, and Beauty and the Beast are all in the 1st category. I would choose between Toy Story Midway Mania and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster for this option. If everyone in your party isn’t tall enough for the roller coaster, then go with Toy Story Midway Mania. Then for your other 2 options, Tower of Terror and Star Tours are usually the best bet. If you aren’t interested in one or both of these attractions, then just default to the attraction of the most interest.

3. Utilize single rider line on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

We love when we have the single rider line option! This can save you time in line! This means that you won’t be riding with the rest of your party, but if you don’t care about that, you will still get to be in line together but not on the ride together. Be sure to gauge the length of the line and ask a cast member their opinions on the line just in case the single rider line is exceptionally long.

2. Book the Fantasmic! Dinner Package.

This really can save you a lot of time and it is a great option. You can book the package beginning 180 days in advance of your trip. The package gets you a meal at Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose’s or The Hollywood Brown Derby. Not only that, it gets you seating in a special section at Fantasmic! This will ensure that you have a seat for the show and lessen the amount of time you have to arrive early (unless you care about sitting super close or in the exact seat you want in the section). The reserved section is right in the center section of the theater, so all seats offer a pretty great view! You get a great meal and a great seats! Win-win!

1. Plan ahead for Fantasmic!

Fantasmic! is one of my favorite shows in all of Walt Disney World. It is extremely popular and fills up quickly. If you are there on a night where there are 2 different showings, then definitely go for the 2nd showing. It is always less crowded and will be easier to get into. It is also usually shown around park closing so you can enjoy attractions while everyone else is at the 1st show. If there is only 1 show and you don’t have a dinner package or FastPass, then you will want to arrive around 30-45 minutes before the show. It sounds early, but the show will fill up quickly and will get to standing room only! There are snacks, beers, sodas, etc. inside. So you can plan to get in line way early so you can get into the theater and find your spot, then send some of your party to get snacks and drinks so you can eat while you wait for the show to start.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
