8. The weather –

The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival is held each year in the mid to late spring, which is a beautiful time of year in Central Florida! You have the warmth you expect from a Florida vacation without the afternoon thunderstorms and extreme heat that come in the summer. Most days will provide the perfect weather for wandering around the beautiful gardens!

7. The lack of crowds –

The spring timing of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival means that much of the festival falls during a less-crowded time of year. As long as you avoid any overlap of the festival with Easter and spring break times, you should find low crowds. This is great for a festival because it means you’ll spend less time in lines, so you can spend more time exploring the gardens and special events.

6. Topiaries –

The topiaries are a big highlight of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival! Topiaries are trees and bushes sculpted into shapes, and Disney knocks this art form out of the park. Prepare yourself to be amazed by the intricate detail of these sculptures that truly make you feel like the character is in front of you! There are a variety of characters spread throughout the park, so you get to enjoy them throughout the day.

5. Concerts –

What’s better than a regular day at Epcot? A day at Epcot with a great concert in the evening! Each year the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival includes a concert series that brings in some big names for weekend concerts. Whether you are seeing a new act or an old favorite, it is a great addition to a day at the park.

4. Flowers –

Since it is a “flower and garden festival,” you would expect the flowers to be a highlight. But in true Walt Disney World fashion, the flowers at this festival are amazing!!! You will find intimate gardens filled with unique flowers you have never seen before. You will also find massive gardens filled with brightly colored flowers in artistic patterns that are just captivating. Make sure there is plenty of space on your camera, as there are fantastic photo opportunities around every corner.

3. Educational opportunities –

Many of the gardens also have information posted that teaches you about the plants they feature. In addition to this, the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival features hands-on presentations and demonstrations throughout the park. These are great opportunities for avid gardeners to learn from the experts, or for the average-Joe to get an introduction to working with plants and flowers. You can take the 3-hour Epcot Gardens of the World tour, led by a Disney horticulturist, for an additional fee, but the other tours and presentations are included in your park admission.

2. Theming –

One of the things that sets Walt Disney World apart from other theme parks is its theming – everything is created with intention and the details are amazing. This is definitely the case with the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. Not only will you see the most beautiful flowers and gardens, eat amazing food, and be awed by the topiaries, but it all fits in perfectly with the existing features of the park. Whether it’s an English Tea Garden in the United Kingdom pavilion, a Beauty and the Best Topiary in France, or a pizzeria garden in Italy, the gardens fit in seamlessly with the rest of the park.

1. Food/drinks –

Epcot is well known for its Food and Wine Festival in the fall, but many people do not realize that the International Flower and Garden Festival also features similar outdoor kitchens throughout the park. At this festival, food and drinks highlighting fruits and vegetables are featured. You will find outdoor kitchens at most of the pavilions in World Showcase and a few scattered about the rest of the park as well. Each kitchen features unique themed menu items and beverages. Most of the food is served in “tasting” portions, so you can sample a variety of things throughout the day. The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival provides the perfect opportunity for eating and/or drinking around the world!

About Katie D

I grew up in New Jersey in a family where the word “vacation” was synonymous with “Disney World.” After a few years of visiting regularly, my family became Disney Vacation Club members which meant we visited even more! Going to Disney always felt kind of like going home, and some of my best childhood and teenage memories occurred there. Now that I live in Jacksonville, FL I am excited to be a short drive from this magical place and look forward to making new memories for years to come.
