Anytime is a great time to visit Walt Disney World, but there is definitely something extra special about the winter months. When we say winter, we mean December through February. This is a time when it is normally frigid, icy, and snowing in other places around the globe.

Here are the top 8 reasons why we love winter at Walt Disney World:

8. The Weather is Really Nice

Florida winters bring cooler temperatures, especially in the evenings, making it a pleasant change from the typical Florida heat. This can be more enjoyable for those who don’t love the sweltering summer temperatures but still want warmer weather than where they’re visiting. Touring the parks in the comfortable Florida winter is a delightful experience.

7. Lots of Great Holiday Events

Walt Disney World offers fantastic holiday events during the Christmas season. Highlights include Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the Candlelight Processional, and Holidays Around the World. It’s an ideal time to visit if you enjoy being immersed in festive fun. There are also excellent offerings for New Year’s Eve, making it a perfect place to ring in the new year.

6. There Are Race Weekends

During the winter months, Walt Disney World hosts two popular race weekends: the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. These events feature multiple races, including ones for kids. The mild Florida winter weather creates ideal racing conditions. Keep in mind that these weekends are very popular, so plan accordingly if they coincide with your visit.

5. The Resorts Decorate for Christmas

Visiting during the Christmas season means you can experience the incredible holiday decorations at each resort. Each Disney resort incorporates its unique theme into the holiday decor, creating magical and varied displays. Touring the resorts to see their stunning decorations is a must for holiday visitors.

4. There Are Usually Fewer Crowds

While the holidays and race weekends can bring in larger crowds, the rest of the winter season typically sees fewer guests. Smaller crowds mean shorter lines, allowing you to enjoy more attractions and experiences during your visit.

3. Easier to Get Desired Dining Reservations

With fewer crowds, it’s generally easier to secure reservations at popular dining locations. While some restaurants book up months in advance, the reduced winter demand offers more opportunities to snag a table at sought-after spots.

2. Great Package Deals Are Often Offered

For those traveling on a budget, winter is an excellent time to visit Walt Disney World. With fewer guests visiting, Disney often releases attractive package deals to encourage bookings. These deals can make your trip more affordable and add extra value to your vacation.

1. Lightning Lane Availability for Popular Attractions

With fewer guests in the parks, you’ll likely find better availability for Lightning Lane selections at popular attractions. Guests staying at Disney resorts can begin reserving Lightning Lane access 60 days in advance, and the reduced competition means you’re more likely to get the times and attractions you want.

Final Thoughts

Winter at Walt Disney World offers a unique blend of festive cheer, pleasant weather, and lighter crowds. From the incredible holiday events to special deals and fewer lines, it’s a magical time to visit. Start planning your winter Disney adventure today and make unforgettable memories!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
