8 Things You’ll Love about Frontera Concina at Walt Disney World

Frontera Concina opened in June 2016 as Disney Springs and has been serving up delicious Mexican fare ever since.  It is one of my favorite restaurants at Walt Disney World, and I bet it will be one of yours too!  Here are 8 Things you’re sure to love about Frontera Cocina:

1. Location

There are several things to love about Frontera Cocina’s location.  The most obvious is that it is at Disney Springs, rather than in a theme park.  This means you can visit anytime, no admission required, and you can really take your time enjoying it because you’re not missing out on ride time!  More specifically though, the location within Disney Springs is fantastic.  Frontera Cocina is actually right next to the spring!  At most restaurants at Disney Springs you might not even know where the name came from, but here the crystal clear water is right there to remind you!  The restaurant is also a short walk from the parking garages, making it convenient for Disney visitors with tired feet.

2. The Atmosphere

One thing I love about Frontera Cocina is how the atmosphere fits whoever is there and what they need.  If you’re there for lunch in your theme park t-shirts, you’ll feel right at home.  Likewise, if you want to get dressed up for a nice dinner and drinks, this is the spot for you.  It manages to balance a warm and cozy feel with an upbeat evening atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.

3. The Drinks

The beverage menu has something for everyone, and brings in authentic Mexican flavors and liquors.  The Frontera is their classic margarita, and there are plenty of more adventures flavors if you’re after something more creative.  Even more unique than the margaritas is their take on classic cocktails – the Blue Corn Old Fashion and Oaxacan Mule put a Mexican twist on these familiar drinks.  Tequila and Mezcal flights are also available, as well as Sangria.  Not into alcoholic beverages?  No problem – Frontera Cocina is a great place to branch out from soda to try some traditional Mexican non-alcoholic beverages as well!

4. The Appetizers

You might want to go ahead and make two reservations for this place, because you could spend a whole evening just eating appetizers and never get to the rest of the menu!  Not only have they perfected Guacamole, but they have a few varieties you can choose from.   You also won’t regret trying the Toto Elotes – fresh made chips served with roasted corn and lime crema.  And my personal favorite is the Queso Fundido.  This cheezy warm goodness on warm soft corn tortillas could be a meal by itself.

5. The Rest of the Menu

If you haven’t ordered all the appertizers and run out of room, you’ll love the rest of the menu at Frontera Concina.  This isn’t a “thrown some sauce on some meat and add rice and beans” Mexican restaurant – it’s the real deal.  Every entrée, salad, taco and torta is carefully designed to bring together complementary flavors and highlight the best of Mexican cuisine.  You will definitely want to try some of what everyone else gets, and probably want to return soon to try something new.

6. Dessert

OK so maybe you should make three reservations, with the third being just for dessert!   If you’ve got an appetite, definitely try out the Frontera Cocina take on a tres leches – the Coconut Lime Cuatro Leches.  If you are trying to fit dessert in after indulging in everything else though, the house made sorbets are light and delicious way to end the meal.   You can also end the night with a coffee grown by small family farmers in Mexico.

7. Taco Stand

Don’t have time for a sit-down meal but want to get a taste of Frontera Cocina?  Check out the taco stand located at the back of the restaurant, right on the springs.  The menu is tiny, but highlights some of the best that the restaurant has to offer.  You can even grab a Margarita!

8. Hours

Frontera Cocina is open 11am-11pm, giving you plenty of options.  It’s a great place to start a day of shopping at Disney Springs, and a great place to wind down at the end of the day.  If you’re trying to save money on food while on a Disney vacation, this is a great place for a mid-afternoon meal.  The portions are generous and you’ll want to order everything, so it can definitely take the place of lunch and dinner!

About Katie D

I grew up in New Jersey in a family where the word “vacation” was synonymous with “Disney World.” After a few years of visiting regularly, my family became Disney Vacation Club members which meant we visited even more! Going to Disney always felt kind of like going home, and some of my best childhood and teenage memories occurred there. Now that I live in Jacksonville, FL I am excited to be a short drive from this magical place and look forward to making new memories for years to come.
