Disneyland Resort recently stepped up its enforcement of filming regulations within the park. A video shared on social media shows a Disney cast member stopping a guest from filming on Main Street, U.S.A., sparking a discussion about Disney’s stance on filming in the park.

On August 13, TikTok user @eljojo100 uploaded a video showing a cast member stopping him while he attempted to record a commercial production on Main Street, U.S.A. The video quickly went viral, amassing over 600,000 views. In the clip, the guest attempts to record the scene as the Disney cast member intervenes, repeatedly telling him to “keep moving.”

“I need you to keep moving, please,” the cast member can be heard saying repeatedly. When the guest continues to raise his phone to film, the cast member steps in front of the lens, saying, “Nope, all the way down, please. I need you to keep moving. Thank you so much. We’re filming here; we can’t have you in the background filming.”

The guest later spotted the same Disney cast member recording the production on a cell phone, and questioned the hypocrisy: “He can be in the background and film, and it’s ok?”

The video sparked a debate among Disney Parks fans, with many supporting the cast member’s actions. They argued that the Disney cast member was just doing his job by preventing guests from interfering with a professional production.

“He’s a cast member,” @bibbidi.bobbidi.beard wrote. “Whatever he is filming is not what you are doing…if a CM tells you to move and stop filming. You do.”

“He’s probably recording something for the team he’s representing/a part of— not himself,” @dddarlin said. “Also when a CM says to do something, just do it.”

However, some people questioned whether the Disney cast member had overstepped his authority.

“I swear some of those CM’s be having a crazy power trip,” @gbone2000 wrote.

“On disneys website shows the rules and policies of the park and filming anywhere in the park other than Restricted Areas is completely allowed,” @torresx23 argued. “If you don’t believe go look it up yourself… and yes that includes even if they are filming a tv show or movie.”

Disneyland Resort does not explicitly forbid filming on Main Street, U.S.A., but guests are expected to follow cast members’ instructions. Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort are private properties, so all park-goers must comply with cast member demands–even if they’re not in the rules.

How do you think this Disneyland Resort cast member should’ve responded to the guest who was filming? Let Disney Tips know in the comments!
