When Universal Orlando debuted Epic Universe earlier this year, every portal leading into its themed lands became a statement piece. Now, just months after opening, one of the park’s most iconic design choices has mysteriously disappeared, leaving fans puzzled.
The grand archway that once introduced The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic has lost its crowning detail: a golden Time-Turner. Guests say the ornate centerpiece, which glittered above the entrance, is no longer in place.
Inside the Ministry and Wizarding Paris
Epic Universe itself was built as Universal’s most ambitious project to date, laid out in a hub-and-spoke design. From Celestial Park, visitors choose portals leading to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Harry Potter’s newest home.
The Wizarding World expansion merges two settings into one land. In 1920s wizarding Paris, adapted from the Fantastic Beasts films, guests encounter Le Cirque Arcanus, a stage show staged beneath a circus tent with puppetry, acrobatics, and magical creatures. The other half recreates the British Ministry of Magic with soaring lifts, floo fireplaces, and spell effects woven into its design.
The land’s flagship ride, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, plunges guests into elevator shafts for a battle against Death Eaters alongside Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The attraction has been widely praised for its scale and technical innovation, helping to anchor Epic Universe’s lineup of blockbuster experiences.
Speculation and Setbacks
Universal has not explained why the Time-Turner was removed from the Wizarding World portal. Fans online suggest it may be a temporary refurbishment, though some worry the detail may not return at all. The timing is unusual, given that the park has been open for only a few months.
This development comes as Epic Universe prepares to expand its role within Universal Orlando. The park will soon be added to park-hopping privileges alongside Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, as well as feature in multi-day ticket packages — a shift designed to position the new park as a core part of any Orlando trip.
The land’s debut has not been without controversy. J.K. Rowling’s widely criticized remarks on transgender issues continue to cast a shadow over Harry Potter expansions, with many fans expressing disappointment at Universal’s decision to expand the franchise further. Despite this, The Wizarding World remains a draw for tourists and locals alike, often topping the list of must-see destinations within Epic Universe.
Elsewhere in the park, Universal faced its most difficult moment in September, when 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala died after riding Stardust Racers. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was “multiple blunt impact injuries.” The incident has intensified scrutiny over the safety of Orlando’s newest theme park, even as crowds continue to pack the gates.
