Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that work has already begun on Season 2 of its new Harry Potter television reboot, even as filming on the first season continues in the United Kingdom.

HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys shared the update during a recent press preview. “They’re still shooting Season 1, obviously. They’re writing Season 2,” he said (via Variety), adding that the studio aims to avoid long delays between seasons.

Bloys noted there will be a brief break after Season 1 wraps, but stressed the intention to keep the schedule tight for the sake of continuity with its young cast’s appearances. “We’re trying not to have massive gaps.”

Season 2 will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, in which Harry investigates the identity of the Heir of Slytherin as students begin turning to stone at Hogwarts.

Ongoing Development on ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot

The first season, currently in production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, follows Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Filming began earlier this year at the same complex that housed the original film series.

The reboot’s core cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They are joined by John Lithgow, Nick Frost, and Paapa Essiedu in major supporting roles.

Daniel Radcliffe recently acknowledged his successor while appearing on Good Morning America. “I wouldn’t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [call me],” he said. “I wrote to Dominic and I sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back.”

The confirmation of Season 2 development follows J.K. Rowling’s first visit to the Leavesden set on November 19. Deadline reported that she met with producers and viewed early material from the new series.

Her appearance renews attention on the ongoing public tension between J.K. Rowling and members of the original cast. Emma Watson discussed the situation on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, saying: “It’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”

Rowling later responded on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Emma and Dan in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right — nay, obligation — to critique me and my views in public.”

Season 1 remains in full production, with no signs of interruption. Industry reports indicate that proposals from Paramount, Comcast, and Netflix to acquire all or parts of Warner Bros. this week are not expected to affect the reboot’s development.
