Disney has adjusted how one of its most talked-about Disneyland attractions is presented to guests, implementing a previously announced operational change involving its Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic.
The update affects Walt Disney – A Magical Life, a show introduced in 2025 that recreates the company’s founder using a highly advanced Audio-Animatronic figure and restored archival recordings of his voice. The attraction has drawn significant attention since opening, both for its technical ambition and its subject matter.
Walt Disney – A Magical Life was developed as a tribute to Walt Disney, tracing his personal and professional journey from his early career through the growth of The Walt Disney Company. Disney has described the experience as “a cinematic journey tracing Walt’s life from his early endeavors to the bright lights of Los Angeles and beyond.”
From its debut, the show was positioned as a major milestone for Disney Imagineering. The figure was designed to replicate Walt Disney’s appearance, gestures, and speech patterns with an unprecedented level of realism, using historical audio rather than newly recorded dialogue.
Reception has been divided. Some guests praised the attraction’s emotional tone and technical sophistication. Others questioned the likeness of the animatronic, sparking debate across social media platforms and fan forums.
“There is an uncanny valley vibe to it,” one Reddit user wrote. “His eyes are not spaced properly and I feel a little too small. His face feels scrunched as Walt in his later years had a longer face profile.”
Another commenter was more direct. “I don’t know who that is but it’s not Walt Disney. You’d think that his company would get his face right.”
Despite the criticism, Disney has consistently maintained that the attraction was never intended to fully replace an existing show at the venue.
How The Opera House Schedule Is Changing
As of February 13, Disneyland has begun rotating Walt Disney – A Magical Life with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at the Main Street Opera House.
NEW: Beginning Feb. 13, Walt Disney – A Magical Life and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will be presented daily on a rotating basis at Disneyland.

The rotation – confirmed by Scott Gustin – was part of the attraction’s original operational plan, though Disney had not publicly confirmed when the switch would occur until shortly before it was implemented.
Under the new schedule, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is performed from park opening until 1:30 p.m. Walt Disney – A Magical Life begins at 2 p.m. and continues through park close.
The change restores Lincoln to a daily presence at the Opera House after months in which Walt Disney – A Magical Life ran as the sole offering. The building now functions as a shared historical venue rather than a single-purpose attraction.
The adjusted schedule reduces the total number of daily performances of Walt Disney – A Magical Life, potentially limiting exposure for guests who plan on park hopping between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
Walt Disney Animatronic Expands to Walt Disney World
The operational update at Disneyland coincides with early planning for a Walt Disney animatronic at Walt Disney World.
During the “Creating the Happiest Place on Earth” panel at D23 in 2025, Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty confirmed that Walt Disney will be incorporated into Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom.
Disney has not announced a timeframe for the addition. No refurbishment for the attraction is currently listed on the Walt Disney World Resort calendar.
However, speculation has increased following the filing of a maintenance-related permit for the attraction in February. Some fans believe the filing could point to future changes, potentially including reworked scenes or updated staging.
Others expect Disney to announce more details later this year, either through a formal refurbishment notice or during D23 presentations.
Disney has previously indicated that updates to the Carousel of Progress would preserve the attraction’s core identity. In August 2025, the Disney Parks Blog teased upcoming changes without outlining specifics.
“There are still plenty of additional details to be revealed, including what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to,” it wrote. “Disney Imagineers love this attraction and the heart of it will stay the same while introducing the Carousel of Progress to an entirely new generation of fans, showing them that a great big, beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.”
Stay tuned for more updates.
