Avengers: Doomsday is apparently facing some big reshoots this year.

The next Avengers installment is scheduled for December 18, 2026, and is intended to serve as a major turning point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, conversation around the film has shifted toward production adjustments and unanswered questions.

It has been nearly seven years since Avengers: Endgame closed the Infinity Saga. That film benefited from years of buildup, with Thanos established long before he took center stage. The current saga has unfolded differently.

Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., is positioned as the Multiverse Saga’s central villain. So far, however, the character has appeared only briefly in a mid-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Additional Filming Confirmed

Marvel has not released a full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, and official plot details remain limited. What is now confirmed is that more filming is on the schedule.

In an interview with ExtraTV, David Harbour said he is returning to London for additional work on the film, where he reprises his role as Alexi Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian.

“I’ve been working a lot. Keeping busy,” Harbour said. “And this little Avengers movie that we got in London. They got a couple more days they want to do.”

He continued, “I’m heading there soon [and] actually going to London for a couple of days. There’s a little more filming coming up for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.'”

Harbour did not frame the extra filming as unusual. Large-scale Marvel productions frequently schedule additional shoots months before release.

He also spoke positively about reuniting with co-stars Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell.

“The chemistry with Sebastian [Stan] and Wyatt [Russell] on set was fantastic,” Harbour said. “The Russos are killing it, and the whole thing is shaping up to be massive.”

The film reunites Marvel with directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Infinity War and EndgameĀ and two installments of Chris Evans’ Captain America trilogy.

What Else We Know

Marvel has released a handful of brief teasers but no full trailer. One teaser featured Steve Rogers, whose storyline appeared to conclude in Endgame.

Reported returning characters include Thor, Shuri, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Johnny Storm, Gambit, and Loki. Characters from Fox’s former Marvel films are also expected to appear.

Several major MCU figures have not been confirmed, including Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man. Tom Holland is leading Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with his Avengers return expected in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Online leaks have circulated as well. According to MyTimeToShineHello, the film may open with a multiversal confrontation involving Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

“Avengers: Doomsday is not only the most epic Avengers movie, but it might be the most epic movie OF ALL TIME,ā€ they wrote.

The same account claims Doom initially works with the Fantastic Four to address Incursions threatening multiple realities.

“Victor asks the Fantastic Four for help with the Incursions,” they wrote. “They have a plan to fix everything.”

Marvel has not confirmed those details. For now, Avengers: Doomsday remains on track for December 18, 2026, even with additional filming underway soon.
