It is finally here. After months of peering over green plywood and speculating about the fate of Sunset Boulevard’s most intense thrill, the wait is over. This week, construction walls have officially fallen at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, revealing the vibrant, psychedelic future of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.

With the grand opening set for May 26, 2026, the removal of these barriers marks the final countdown for the most anticipated reimagining in the park’s recent history. For fans of the Electric Mayhem, the view is nothing short of “sensational.”
A Masterpiece of Neon and Nostalgia
The center of attention is, of course, the legendary 40-foot-tall electric guitar. While the silhouette of the iconic Fender Stratocaster remains, the “Aerosmith era” has officially left the building. In its place is a high-energy explosion of color that signals a new kind of rock ‘n’ roll.
The guitar has been completely stripped of its classic red finish and replaced with a psychedelic swirl of neon blue, green, yellow, lilac, and purple. The body is now adorned with bright yellow stars, giving the courtyard a “groovy” aesthetic that perfectly captures the chaos of the Muppets.
The most talked-about detail, however, sits at the very bottom. The piano-key structure that serves as the guitar’s base has been meticulously repainted, and in the center sits a solid-gold key. This “Golden Key” is a direct tribute to Dr. Teeth’s signature gold tooth, a subtle but brilliant nod from Imagineering that the band leader has officially taken over the studio.
New Management, Same High-G Thrills
While the exterior is a kaleidoscopic dream, the storyline inside has also received a total Muppet makeover. The “G-Force Records” studio is now under new management—specifically, Scooter and a team of audio-engineer penguins.

The new pre-show features an advanced Audio-Animatronic Scooter who is desperately trying to keep the Electric Mayhem on schedule for their massive Hollywood concert. When things inevitably go wrong, it is up to the guests to board their “L.I.M.O.s” (Lengthy Immediate Motion Objects) and blast through the Los Angeles traffic to get the band to the stage on time.
For the adrenaline junkies, the ride experience remains as intense as ever. Guests will still experience the legendary 0 to 57 mph launch in just 2.8 seconds, followed by three inversions in the dark. However, the experience is now synchronized to a brand-new, randomized soundtrack featuring covers and original tracks from the Electric Mayhem, including high-energy renditions of “Song 2” and “Born to Be Wild.”
Counting Down to May 26
The removal of the construction walls suggests that Disney is entering the final phase of preparations. With the courtyard now fully visible to the public, the aesthetic of Sunset Boulevard has noticeably shifted from the “dark and moody” vibe of the 90s to a brighter, more playful “Studio” energy that bridges the gap between the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Muppet-Vision 3D.

Cast member previews are expected to begin within the week, followed closely by Annual Passholder and DVC previews. If you are planning to visit for the May 26 grand opening, be prepared for high demand; this “Muppet-fication” is expected to draw massive crowds as Disney leans into the timeless charm of its most chaotic characters.
The Electric Mayhem is ready to play the music and light the lights. Are you ready for the mayhem?
