Disney Guests Canceling Trips to Coronado Springs After New Update

Planning a Walt Disney World vacation often means making reservations months in advance, especially when it comes to choosing a hotel. Guests compare transportation, pools, restaurants, room prices, and proximity to the parks before finally deciding where to stay.

But there’s another factor that can quickly change those plans: construction.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is preparing for a major refurbishment that will stretch well beyond a typical maintenance project. The work is expected to last more than a year, and while Disney is taking steps to reduce its effect on guests, some travelers may decide they would rather stay somewhere else until the project wraps up.

That doesn’t mean Coronado Springs is shutting down. Far from it. The resort will continue welcoming guests throughout the project. However, anyone considering a stay between late summer 2026 and fall 2027 should know exactly what will be happening before locking in a reservation.

A Major Coronado Springs Refurbishment Is Coming

The biggest change involves the Convention Center at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Beginning August 10, 2026, Disney will launch a planned refurbishment of the Convention Center. The project will also include the El Centro Corridor and surrounding areas. Disney currently expects the work to continue until late September 2027.

That means this isn’t a refurbishment guests will have to think about for a few weeks or even a few months.

The current schedule puts the project at roughly 13 months.

For guests planning vacations far in advance, that creates a surprisingly large window in which Coronado Springs will be operating alongside an active construction project.

Disney does have a plan to make the situation easier.

Disney Is Trying To Limit the Disruption

One important detail is that Disney isn’t closing the entire Convention Center at once.

Instead, the refurbishment will happen in phases. Individual spaces will temporarily become unavailable as crews move through different portions of the project. Disney also plans to conduct the work overnight in an effort to reduce disruptions during normal daytime operations.

That should certainly help.

Guests aren’t necessarily going to walk into the resort and find construction crews working everywhere throughout the middle of the day. Disney appears to be structuring the project specifically to keep Coronado Springs functioning as normally as possible.

Why Guests May Cancel or Change Their Reservations

Coronado Springs Has Become a Popular Disney World Hotel

The timing is particularly unfortunate because Coronado Springs offers a lot beyond its convention facilities.

The resort has long blended the atmosphere of a Disney vacation destination with the amenities of a convention hotel. That combination makes it somewhat different from many other hotels across Walt Disney World.

One of its biggest recreational draws is the pool area.

The resort’s pool includes a waterslide and an enormous 50-foot replica of a Mayan pyramid. Coronado Springs is also home to the largest outdoor hot tub at Walt Disney World.

Those amenities can make the hotel particularly appealing to travelers who deliberately schedule time away from the theme parks.

After spending several consecutive days walking through Disney World, having a day to sleep later, grab lunch, visit the pool, and explore the resort can be a welcome change.

That’s also why construction may carry more weight here than it would at a hotel someone primarily uses as a place to sleep.

The Dining Options Remain a Major Draw

Coronado Springs also has a surprisingly deep dining lineup.

Dahlia Lounge offers guests a more relaxed setting with views overlooking the property, while Rix Sports Bar & Grillprovides another option without requiring guests to leave the resort.

Then there’s Toledo, which sits on the rooftop and specializes in Spanish-inspired dishes and tapas.

Having several dining choices at one resort can make a noticeable difference during a longer vacation.

Instead of boarding a bus or driving somewhere else for dinner, guests can spend an evening around Coronado Springs. That becomes particularly useful after a long theme park day when nobody in the family feels like traveling again.

The upcoming refurbishment doesn’t erase those advantages.

It simply adds another factor guests need to weigh against them.

This Could Matter Even More for Convention Guests

Of course, there’s another group that will want to pay particularly close attention to this project.

Convention visitors.

There isn’t one answer that will work for every Disney World guest.

If you spend nearly your entire vacation inside the theme parks, the refurbishment might have very little effect on your stay. Disney is deliberately completing the project in phases and scheduling work overnight to limit disruption.

You could potentially stay at Coronado Springs and barely notice anything beyond construction activity around certain areas.

But guests looking for a peaceful resort-focused vacation may feel differently.

A Disney World hotel can become part of the vacation rather than simply somewhere to sleep. If you’re planning pool days, late mornings, afternoon naps, or evenings exploring the property, knowing construction could be happening nearby might influence your decision.

There’s also the length of the project to consider.

That gives travelers plenty of opportunities to encounter the project.
