January 2027 Closure Confirmed for Disney World Theme Park

Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed the date of its annual water theme park switchover. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will reopen on January 27, 2027. Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park closes that same day for its own seasonal refurbishment.

The announcement gives guests a firm date for the return of Disney World’s tropical-themed water park. It also ends roughly four and a half months of seasonal downtime.

Disney Confirms Typhoon Lagoon’s Return

According to Disney (via WDWMagic), “Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 27, 2027.” The water theme park has been closed since September 9, 2026, with Tuesday, September 8, being the final day for guests to visit. The whole park closed, not just a single attraction, and at the time, Walt Disney World Resort did not announce a reopening date, instead pointing guests toward Blizzard Beach in the meantime.

A Familiar Rotation

The switchover follows the alternating pattern Disney has used for its two water parks for years. One park closes for maintenance while the other stays open through the cooler months.

Summer 2025 broke with the one-park pattern, with both water parks operating simultaneously during the busiest spring-summer months, from May to September. Again, in 2026, both parks were open and supported by the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER promotion, which ran from May 26 through September 8. As part of the event, Disney Resort hotel guests received free admission to either water park on their check-in day.

That perk worked differently a year earlier. In 2025, Walt Disney World Resort offered free arrival-day water park admission to Disney Resort hotel guests year-round, limited to whichever water park was open. In 2026, Disney restricted the offer to the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER window. Guests checking in from September 9 onward no longer received same-day admission to Blizzard Beach. Disney has not said whether the promotion will return in 2027.

What Guests Can Expect at Typhoon Lagoon

The reopening restores access to the park’s lineup of attractions:

  • Humunga Kowabunga
  • Crush ’n’ Gusher
  • Miss Adventure Falls
  • Castaway Creek
  • the Storm Slides
  • the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Mount Mayday and the park’s storm-swept setting remain at the center of the experience, and Disney has not publicly shared what work took place during the refurbishment.

What Happens to Blizzard Beach?

Blizzard Beach has been Disney World’s only operating water park since September. On January 27, 2027, it will temporarily close for refurbishment, and Disney has not yet announced a reopening date. Disney could repeat this year’s approach and run both water parks together again by summer 2027, but that has not been confirmed.

Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort before January 27 will have Blizzard Beach as their only water park option. Guests arriving on or after that date will have Typhoon Lagoon instead. Visitors who want one park over the other should plan around the switchover date. They should also check Disney’s official operating calendar for confirmed hours, because cold fronts in Central Florida can lead to last-minute weather closures.
