Disney World Announces Major Resort Overhaul, Construction to Continue Through 2028
Walt Disney World is preparing for another round of construction, and guests planning to stay at one of its most popular resorts may want to pay close attention to the upcoming changes.
Disney is constantly updating its hotels, attractions, and other experiences to keep everything looking its best. While these improvements are important, they can sometimes create unexpected inconveniences for families who have spent months planning their vacations.

Now, Disney has confirmed that a popular resort will undergo several additional refurbishments over the next two years, including updates to guest rooms and a temporary closure involving a major recreational area.
Some construction is already underway, and the latest schedule means guests could continue encountering disruptions through 2028.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Faces More Construction
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is known for its beautiful surroundings, rustic atmosphere, and impressive architecture inspired by the national park lodges of the American Northwest.
Located near Magic Kingdom, the Deluxe Resort offers guests a peaceful place to relax while still enjoying convenient access to Disney World’s theme parks.
However, the property has also been dealing with construction for quite some time.

The resort’s current exterior refurbishment began on August 5, 2024, and is expected to continue through late 2026.
That means the project has already lasted more than two years, with crews working on different areas of the property.
Disney previously confirmed the extended construction schedule in November 2025, and the latest information indicates that the work remains on track to finish before the end of 2026.
For guests staying at Wilderness Lodge in the meantime, some construction-related inconveniences are still possible.
Disney has warned that visitors may encounter obstructed views in certain locations, along with construction sights and sounds during daytime hours.
Although these disruptions are temporary, they could affect guests hoping to enjoy a completely peaceful resort experience.
And unfortunately, the end of the exterior project won’t mark the end of construction at Wilderness Lodge.
Disney Confirms Guest Room Refurbishments for 2027
Once the exterior improvements are complete, Disney will turn its attention to another important part of the resort.
Guest rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge are scheduled to undergo refurbishment from July through September 2027.
This three-month project will bring additional updates to the hotel, although Disney has not provided a detailed explanation of exactly what changes guests can expect inside the rooms.
The refurbishment could involve smaller improvements rather than a complete redesign, but the extent of the work has not been officially confirmed.
For families planning a summer vacation in 2027, the timing is particularly important.
July, August, and September fall during a period when many families visit Disney World before or around the beginning of the school year.

Guests staying at Wilderness Lodge during these months could encounter construction activity as Disney works through the refurbishment schedule.
However, Disney has not announced that the entire resort will close while the rooms receive their updates.
The work also follows another recent project involving the Disney Vacation Club accommodations at the property.
Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge underwent a separate refurbishment between mid-May and September 2025.
With those accommodations already receiving attention, Disney is now preparing to update the hotel’s regular guest rooms.
But another significant project is scheduled to follow.
Popular Disney World Resort Pool Will Close for Refurbishment in 2028
Guests who enjoy spending time at their resort pools will also want to keep an eye on the construction schedule.
Disney has confirmed that Copper Creek Springs Pool will undergo refurbishment beginning in January 2028.
The project is currently expected to continue through spring 2028, meaning the resort’s main swimming pool will be unavailable during the refurbishment.
Copper Creek Springs Pool is a major recreational feature at Wilderness Lodge, offering guests a place to cool off and enjoy some downtime away from the theme parks.
The pool also features a waterslide, making it especially appealing to families traveling with children.
For guests who specifically choose Wilderness Lodge because of its amenities, losing access to the main pool could be disappointing.
After all, many Disney World visitors build resort days into their vacations so they can relax without spending every waking moment inside the theme parks.
Fortunately, guests won’t be left without another swimming option.
Boulder Ridge Cove Pool, the resort’s second pool, is expected to remain available while Copper Creek Springs Pool undergoes its refurbishment.
That gives visitors another place to swim, although it won’t necessarily replace everything offered at the main pool.
Disney has not announced an exact reopening date beyond the spring 2028 timeframe.
What These Refurbishments Mean for Disney World Guests
With several projects scheduled across multiple years, guests considering a stay at Wilderness Lodge should review the refurbishment calendar before making their reservations.
The current schedule includes exterior construction continuing through late 2026, guest room refurbishments from July through September 2027, and the Copper Creek Springs Pool refurbishment from January through spring 2028.
While Disney regularly completes maintenance and upgrades throughout its resort hotels, construction can still change the experience guests receive during their vacations.

Some visitors may not mind seeing construction equipment or hearing occasional work during the day, especially if they plan to spend most of their time at the theme parks.
Others may prefer to stay somewhere without major projects underway, particularly when booking a Deluxe Resort for its relaxing atmosphere and amenities.
The upcoming pool refurbishment could be especially important for families traveling during the winter and spring months of 2028.
Although another pool will remain available, guests hoping to use Copper Creek Springs Pool and its waterslide will need to plan around the temporary closure.
The good news is that these projects are intended to maintain and improve the resort for future visitors.
By the time the scheduled work finishes, Wilderness Lodge will have received improvements to its exterior, guest rooms, Disney Vacation Club accommodations, and main swimming pool.
For now, guests planning vacations in 2027 or 2028 should keep checking Disney’s official resort information for possible schedule changes.
Construction timelines can shift, and knowing what to expect before arriving can help families avoid disappointment during an otherwise exciting Disney World vacation.
