Walt Disney World Resort has recently implemented a sweeping ban on select nut-based food items across its properties. This new policy reportedly aims to enhance guest safety, particularly for individuals with severe nut allergies.
Guest Reactions to Food Changes
Redditor u/neversummerdrew76 recently noticed that Walt Disney World Resort’s iconic peanut-covered caramel apples were missing from Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney Springs.
“Where did the NUTS go?!?!” the Disney Park guest asked. “Why do none of the caramel apples at [Walt Disney World Resort] have nuts on them anymore? Where did the nuts go? And will they be coming back? Does anyone know?”
Several Disney Parks fans cited an ongoing wrongful death lawsuit as the reason behind the change. Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan died of an allergic reaction at Disney Springs after informing her server at Raglan Road Irish Pub of her dietary restrictions and receiving assurance that her meal was safe.
Dr. Tangsuan’s widow, Jeffrey Piccolo, sued The Walt Disney Company for damages up to $50,000. Walt Disney World Resort doesn’t own Raglan Road Irish Pub, but Piccolo’s attorneys argued that the Central Florida Disney park should supervise food safety protocols on its properties.
“Disney has been under extreme precautions for allergies ever since the Raglan Road tragedy,” u/ChrissyNotChristy commented. “Their allergy policies have been progressing over the years, but nuts DEFINITELY needed to go… It’s just safer for everyone.”
Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t made an official announcement about a nut ban throughout its theme parks and Disney Springs. Other versions of the beloved caramel apples remain available.
Impact on Walt Disney World Resort Guests with Food Allergies
This change represents a significant step toward improved safety for Disney Park guests with nut allergies.
Many individuals who have faced challenges in dining out due to food allergies often express worry and anxiety over the potential exposure to allergens. With the new regulations families can feel more secure when exploring the diverse culinary offerings at Disney parks.
