After a long stretch of sustained heat in recent memory, Walt Disney World guests are about to experience something absent from Central Florida since the early days of summer: genuinely cool mornings.
The first cold front of the season is moving across Central Florida this week, just days after the official start of fall. According to local forecasters, “Mother Nature is wasting no time getting Central Florida into the Fall spirit!” The front is expected to bring “a nice dose of cooler, less humid air into the area,” and for guests walking between Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, that change could make a noticeable difference.
A Milestone More Than 100 Days in the Making
The headline for many Disney fans is how long it has taken to get here. Forecasters note that “Temperatures drop down into the mid-upper 60s by Saturday morning for the first time in 110 days!”
That means Orlando has gone roughly three and a half months without a morning dipping below 70 degrees, a stretch covering the entire peak summer travel season. For guests visiting during that window, even rope drop offered little relief from the muggy conditions.
What to Expect Through the Weekend
The front arrives Thursday morning with spotty showers, though the best chance of rain sits along the coast in Flagler and Volusia counties. Forecasters say, “Coverage will top out at around 30%,” meaning Walt Disney World, well inland in Orange and Osceola counties, faces a comparatively low risk of rain.
From there, drier and cooler air “will begin to filter in early Friday morning and continue into the weekend.” Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring “morning lows in the 60s” with “highs in the mid 80s under a mix of sun and clouds.” Lower humidity should make those afternoons feel far more manageable than anything guests have encountered since June.
How Cooler Weather Affects the Walt Disney World Experience
Water Parks and Water Rides
Cooler weather has historically had the most direct impact on Disney’s water parks. Disney’s Blizzard Beach, themed around a ski resort that accidentally found itself in the Florida sunshine, has in past seasons seen delayed openings or temporary closures on colder days, as Disney reserves the right to adjust water park operations due to weather.
With lows only in the mid-upper 60s and highs in the mid-80s, this front is unlikely to disrupt water park operations significantly, though early visitors may find the first hour or two noticeably chilly. The same applies to attractions such as Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom, where a soaking that feels refreshing in July is far less welcome on a breezy 68-degree morning.
Seasonal Events
The timing suits Walt Disney World’s fall calendar. The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom both lean heavily on outdoor experiences, and evening party guests in particular may welcome the drier air after a summer of humid nights.
