Marvel just proved that audiences will return to theaters for an older blockbuster when there’s something new waiting for them. Now, Spider-Man could be next.
Following the successful theatrical return of Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026), a new report claims that a Spider-Man movie could receive an expanded theatrical run of its own. And with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) quickly approaching, the timing certainly raises some eyebrows.
The potential move comes almost immediately after Endgame made serious money while helping build even more attention around Marvel’s next Avengers event.
If the plans unfold as sources claim, a certain Spider-Man film could soon follow a remarkably similar playbook.
One Spider-Man Movie Is Already a Historic Hit
The movie potentially heading back to theaters is Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), and it certainly doesn’t need help at the box office.
Brand New Day has earned approximately $2.495 billion worldwide, including $950.7 million from North America. That makes it the highest-grossing movie ever domestically and the third-highest worldwide.
It has also become Sony’s biggest movie ever, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which earned approximately $1.92 billion globally.
With Brand New Day still in its theatrical run, a new version could extend its historic run and potentially push the total past $2.5 billion.
And Disney just demonstrated how profitable that strategy can be.

Endgame: Encore Proved The Tactic Could Work
The potential Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) re-release follows an enormous weekend for Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026).
The expanded version earned $86 million worldwide, including $26 million domestically, pushing its lifetime global total to approximately $2.885 billion. It remains behind Avatar (2009), which has earned approximately $2.92 billion.
But the return wasn’t only about adding more money to Endgame‘s total.
It also promoted Avengers: Doomsday (2026), which arrives on December 18. Marvel gave audiences another reason to revisit the Avengers while directing attention toward its next blockbuster.
Now, Spider-Man could potentially follow that formula.
Never-Before-Seen Footage Joins Spider-Man Re-Release
If plans move ahead as sources claim, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) would include additional footage, including material involving Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.
Dawson played Temple across Daredevil (2015), Jessica Jones (2015), Luke Cage (2016), Iron Fist (2017), and The Defenders (2017). The character frequently provided medical assistance to Marvel’s street-level vigilantes.
Dawson previously revealed that she filmed a scene for Brand New Day, but it didn’t make the theatrical version. A re-release could finally let audiences see it.
Sources also claim the additional footage could contain other surprises, making the timing even more interesting.

What Could This Mean for Doomsday?
Claire Temple appearing in an expanded Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) wouldn’t automatically mean Dawson has a role in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
The explanation could be simple: deleted footage gives audiences who have already watched the movie another reason to buy a ticket. Bringing back a popular character cut from the original release would certainly be an additional selling point.
Still, Marvel could potentially use the additional material for something more.
Daredevil or Claire Temple could theoretically appear briefly in Doomsday as Marvel brings different corners of its universe together. Even a short cameo could help connect Spider-Man’s street-level world with the much larger conflict developing around the Avengers. Nothing confirms that’s happening, and Dawson’s deleted scene isn’t evidence that she’s joining the Avengers movie.
The stronger possibility may involve any additional footage and whether Marvel uses it to tease what comes next.

There Could Be More Footage Tied to Doom
Additional scenes could expand storylines that become important later or place greater emphasis on the implications of Brand New Day‘s end-credit scenes. Marvel could even use previously unseen material to offer another clue about where Spider-Man fits into the larger story moving forward.
With Avengers: Doomsday (2026) arriving on December 18, Marvel wouldn’t need to make dramatic changes to Brand New Day to create a connection. One scene or conversation could give audiences something new to consider before the Avengers return.
Even a small addition involving another hero, the Multiverse, or Spider-Man’s future could suddenly carry more significance with Doomsday so close. That would also give fans another reason to watch the expanded version closely rather than simply revisiting a movie they’ve already seen.
Of course, the extra footage could also have nothing to do with Doomsday.
But after Marvel’s success with Endgame, it’s difficult not to wonder whether the potential Spider-Man return could serve a larger promotional purpose while keeping attention firmly on Marvel ahead of its next Avengers event.

The Timing Is Awfully Suspicious
There are already plenty of reasons to bring Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) back. It’s approaching $2.5 billion worldwide, it’s Sony’s biggest movie ever, and unseen footage could convince audiences to return.
Then there’s Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
Disney just turned Avengers Endgame: Encore (2026) into an $86 million global event while building excitement for its next Avengers blockbuster. Now, Spider-Man could receive an expanded theatrical run with previously unseen footage.
That doesn’t prove the strategies are connected. Maybe audiences simply get Claire Temple and other deleted scenes.
Or perhaps there’s another reason this particular movie could return at this particular moment.
After an $86 million reminder that fans will pay to revisit a Marvel blockbuster, the timing couldn’t be much better.
