PHOTOS: Residents of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Are Ready for Halloween!

Halloween is just about here and it isn’t just Cast Members and popular Disney characters getting into the spirit at the theme parks!

Disney’s Animal, Science, and Environment team celebrated spooky season with the animals who reside at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge offering them a unique opportunity to play (and snack) on pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. (And the photos are adorable!)

Many of the animals who were given pumpkins for enrichment activities this week can easily be spotted around both the theme park and the Resort, so be sure to keep an eye out for them while visiting Kilimanjaro Safaris, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, Maharajah Jungle Trek, and the savannas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Actually stopping to see the animals is somehow one activity that many Guests miss in Animal Kingdom (because they are primarily focusing on rides) but it is always fun to slow it down and see animals like Okapi (pictured below), along with giraffes, lions, elephants, crocodiles, otters, tortoises, and so much more.

During spooky season, and all year long, Disney works with the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) to support both the animals living at Walt Disney World and those still found in the wild. As part of these efforts, the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund is used to allocate funds to non-profit organizations around the world that work directly with endangered species and the communities that neighbor their natural habitats.

Want to help support the Disney Conservation Fund during your next trip? Simply make a donation at any merchandise or quick-service dining location (it can be as easy as rounding up your change) at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge, as well as the Land pavilion and The Seas With Nemo & Friends in EPCOT. Disney covers all overheard costs required to manage the fund, and the company matches every donation.

To make sure you don’t miss out on seeing any of these amazing animals during your next trip, pick up an animal spotting guide (located near the maps) in Animal Kingdom or look for animal sightings in the My Disney Experience app.

And don’t forget, the animals make for a different experience every time you visit. Even if you have done one of the animal walking trails or ridden Kilimanjaro Safaris before, you could have a totally different experience on your next trip, with or without the pumpkins.
