Imagine planning a Hollywood Studios evening, with dinner, rides, and maybe a late show, and then learning the park closes at 5:00 p.m. That’s the reality on October 20 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where a private buyout means the park shuts four hours earlier than its normal October hours.

Before you rework your night, here’s what’s confirmed. We’ve kept each claim tied to its source and flagged a few spots where the reports don’t quite agree. Below are the October 20 hours at every park, the reason for the early closure, and ways to salvage an evening.

A quick note on sourcing: the hours come from the schedule listed in the report, and the details about the event come from last week’s reminder and the conference website. When those sources differ, we’ll point it out and leave it there.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios closes at 5:00 p.m. on October 20, 2026. According to the report, a private buyout by Gartner is the reason, and it means the park shuts four hours earlier than its usual October hours.

The listed hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Early Entry from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for Disney hotel guests. Normal mid-October hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., so October 20 marks a significant cut.

Why the Park Closes Early

A report from last week tied the change to a private event associated with the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, which runs from October 19 through October 22 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. It said Hollywood Studios would host an evening event from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., so regular guests need to leave before it begins.

The conference website describes it this way: “Join us for our Special Event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park! From 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., we’ve reserved the entire park for you to enjoy entertainment, thrilling rides, and delicious food. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss, reserved just for you!”

Where to Go After 5:00 p.m.

Here’s the schedule for October 20, as listed in the report:

  • Magic Kingdom: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with Early Entry from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Animal Kingdom: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with Early Entry from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and Extended Evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for resort guests
  • EPCOT: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Early Entry from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Blizzard Beach: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Typhoon Lagoon: closed on October 20.

The report suggests that if Hollywood Studios was your evening plan, EPCOT is the best alternative for a full evening out, since it stays open until 9:00 p.m. and is running normal hours on October 20. Magic Kingdom’s listed hours run later, until 10:00 p.m.

Reading the Hours Carefully

A few details are worth noticing. The report’s introductory line says Animal Kingdom’s Extended Evening hours are for Disney Deluxe resort guests, while the schedule lists “resort guests.” We’re repeating both and not reconciling them, so check the official listing if Extended Evening matters to you.

Early Entry at Hollywood Studios is listed for Disney hotel guests. And hours can change, so confirm the October 20 schedule in the official app before heading out.

Making a Shorter Day Work

Last week’s report suggested prioritizing headline attractions earlier in the day, naming Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, particularly for guests hoping to avoid long queues. It also suggested guests could consider moving to another park after leaving, while checking that park’s hours first.

Those are the report’s suggestions, not guarantees about wait times. We don’t have information on how crowded the park will be on October 20.

The Rest of October’s Schedule Changes

October 20 isn’t the only date with adjusted hours. According to last week’s report, Magic Kingdom will see repeated early closures this month as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place on select evenings. Guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. on multiple dates, including October 22, 23, and 25.

The report also says EPCOT will delay its opening until 10 a.m. on October 23 and 25 for Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. It notes that three of Walt Disney World’s four theme parks are affected by operating changes at some point this month, and recommends checking the official calendar before traveling.

Planning Around Private Events

For visitors, the practical takeaway is to check hours for your specific dates before you build a plan. If a park you care about is closing early, look at the other parks’ listed hours, and keep in mind that some evening options, like Extended Evening, are limited to certain guests.

The information we have doesn’t say how often private events cause early closures, so we won’t suggest a pattern. It simply shows how a single day’s schedule can look very different from the usual one.

Compare two dates from the reports. On October 20, Magic Kingdom’s listed hours run until 10:00 p.m. On October 22, 23, and 25, guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. Same park, very different evenings, which is exactly why checking the date matters.
