New Revelations Shake Up Anticipation for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’

However, concerns are growing over the potential of a Pirates of the Caribbean 6 project as Disney has yet to release an official statement on the inclusion of Depp. Still, an exciting new update may offer a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

Rumors have swirled around decyphering exactly how Disney will move forward with its successful Pirates franchise. As many fans feel there is no Pirates of the Caribbean 6 without Johnny Depp and his must-have Captain Jack Sparrow character, Dinsey may not have a choice in the matter.

Well-publicized, Disney made the difficult yet speedy decision to fire Johnny Depp from any future Pirates work back in 2018 after a Washington Post expose by his now ex-wife Amber Heard accused the superstar actor of serious abuse.

As talks continue with Deadpool (2016) screenwriter Paul Wernick regarding a potential Margot Robbie feature for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, some new information has been leaked as of today, that might point the future in a new direction.

Although most weren’t super excited about carrying on the franchise without Depp, the idea of a female lead, especially one as polarizing as Margot Robbie, has been a reasonable rumor when it comes to how Disney will handle Pirates moving forward. However, thanks to Comic Book News, all of the talk surrounding the Barbie (2023) superstar may come to a screeching halt.

Brand New Information, Hot off the Presses

New information now suggests that a brand-new face may be taking over the lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, and it isn’t Margot Robbie. According to Barbie herself, Disney backed out of the original idea featuring the Suicide Squad (2016) star, leaving the only semi-supported idea marooned.

“We had an idea, and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie said.

However, if rumors presented by Daniel RPK, a notable leaker on X, are true, it seems that this female-led approach might be back on, but with an exciting twist!

A New Face Enters the ‘Pirates’ Universe

According to Daniel, Disney will potentially move on with the new project. However, instead of Margot Robbie, they are eyeing a new name, one you may not know as well.

Ayo Edebiri, a relatively under-whelming Hollywood actress, could be the new face of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 moving forward. Although fans have been eagerly awaiting a return of the franchise since its 2017 Dead Men Tell No Tales, the potential news of Edebiri being the focal point of the films moving forward is a little shocking, especially if Disney can’t get Depp back on board.

However, Edebiri, although relatively unknown, is no stranger to big projects. According to Comic Book News, “28-year-old Ayo Edebiri is known for Big Mouth (2017), Clone High (2002), The Bear (2023), and she recently provided the voice of April O’Neil in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) animated movie.”

Despite who’s carrying on the Pirates’ legacy, fans will have difficulty getting behind a film without Johnny Depp. However, if Disney can secure producer Jerry Bruckheimer, fans can rest assured that the new movie will at least be watchable.
