Could Disney’s New Muppets Coaster Feature ‘Christmas Carol’ Scenes?

Muppet*Vision 3D is no more. After entertaining Disney World guests for 34 years with exploding projectors, singing vegetables, and backstage antics, the theater has gone dark.

Originally launched in 1991, Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was one of the last major projects Jim Henson worked on. The show was filled with deep-cut Muppet charm: Gonzo hijacking the screen, Beaker lighting things on fire, Sam Eagle taking it all way too seriously. It was messy, weird, and perfectly in character with the Muppets.

But the park is in the middle of a major overhaul, and the Grand Avenue section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios—formerly Muppets Courtyard—is being reimagined as a Monsters, Inc. themed land complete with its own roller coaster. This means that Muppet*Vision 3D is out for good, and the Muppets are losing their longest-running physical presence at the parks.

At least, temporarily.

A day before the show’s final curtain, Kermit posted a video on the Walt Disney World Instagram account announcing that the Muppets aren’t gone for good. They’re moving across the park where they’ll take over Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster beginning in 2026. The current Aerosmith version will continue through next year before getting re-themed entirely.

How the re-theme plays out is unknown, but concept art shows Kermit and the gang dressed for rock ‘n’ roll alongside the band, Electric Mayhem. If the ride keeps its high-speed launch, expect the chaos to match. Whether it will include references to classic Muppet films—or even seasonal overlays tied to The Muppet Christmas Carol—also remains to be seen, but it could be a clever way to expand the Muppets’ presence at Disney World in one swift motion.

If nothing else, the announcement of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets proves that Disney isn’t done with Kermit and the gang just yet. They may be moving out of the theater, but their next performance is already in rehearsal.
