One of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most exhilarating attractions, Kali River Rapids, will be taking a brief hiatus starting January 6, 2025, for its annual refurbishment. This maintenance period, a standard part of the attraction’s calendar, ensures the ride remains in top-notch condition for future visitors. While Disney has not provided a definitive reopening date, the ride typically reopens by mid-March, based on previous closures.

The Adventure of Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids isn’t just another water ride — it’s an immersive journey into the heart of a Southeast Asian jungle. The attraction, nestled in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, takes guests aboard a circular raft for a winding expedition down the Chakranadi River. Along the way, rafters encounter lush landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and a dramatic drop guaranteed to drench even the bravest riders.

What sets Kali River Rapids apart is its environmental message. Through its storyline, the ride draws attention to the impact of illegal logging and deforestation, seamlessly blending thrills with education. Since its debut in 1999, it has been a staple of the park, offering families a mix of excitement and a cool reprieve from the Florida heat.

Why the Annual Refurbishment?

Water attractions like Kali River Rapids require consistent maintenance to ensure both guest safety and show quality. Over time, exposure to water and high levels of guest traffic take a toll on ride systems and scenic elements. This annual closure allows Disney to update technical components, repair wear and tear, and keep the ride’s stunning visuals intact.

While its absence will be felt, the downtime is vital to maintaining the ride’s long-term appeal.

This closure will coincide with the final day to experience TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be January 12, 2025, as these beloved attractions bid farewell to guests. Starting January 13, construction walls will rise in the area as work begins on the highly anticipated Tropical Americas-themed transformation. For now, key attractions and dining options such as DINOSAUR, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will remain open, continuing to offer entertainment and refreshment in the park’s Dinoland U.S.A. section.
