A mother is calling out a Disneyland Resort cast member for what she says was a blatantly rude and unnecessary remark about her young son’s appearance. The guest, who was visiting Disney California Adventure Park, claims that a park entry cast member insulted her three-year-old son, Luke, by commenting on his gender.

Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort cast members are known for their magic-making, but one guest says her experience at the park’s entrance was anything but magical. Magic Key Pass holder and TikTok user @disneysarah23 recently shared a video detailing an uncomfortable moment with a cast member when she tried to scan into Disney California Adventure Park.

For the record I remained calm and never gave this guy an attitude back because I know they have a difficult job dealing with the public. Do you think he was having an off morning or this is his regular routine? #disney #disneyparks #disneylandresort #castmember #disneytiktok #magickeyholder #californiaadventure

According to the guest, her three-year-old son Luke was seated in his stroller when she scanned his Magic Key Pass at the theme park entrance. The cast member allegedly gave her a disgusted look before asking, “Luke’s a girl?!”

The guest calmly responded that Luke is a boy, explaining that people often mistake him for a girl because of his long hair.

However, the Disney cast member reportedly doubled down on his comment, saying, “Um, look at the screen. You’re gonna need to get this changed, or you’re going to continue to have issues because of his picture. He looks like a girl.”

The mother explained that when Luke first received his Magic Key pass, he was too young to stay still for a proper photo, resulting in an image where his long hair partially covered his face. While she acknowledges that Disneyland Resort’s new facial recognition system may require clearer photos, she believes the cast member’s remark had nothing to do with ID issues and was just a rude insult toward her child.

“It’s my understanding that the Disney parks are now getting facial recognition, so I can see how that would be an issue for that,” she said. “But that wasn’t this guy’s issue. His issue was that my son ‘looked like a girl.’ He could have said, ‘You might want to take a new photo so we can get his full face.’ But instead, this cast member chose to insult a three-year-old by right in front of him saying, ‘He looks like a girl.’”

The mother’s video quickly gained traction, with many Disneyland Resort fans urging her to file a complaint with Guest Services.

“I  hope you reported him,” said @jordan.alexandriia. “I’m so sorry you and your son went through that. Adult bullies are the worst.”

Some Disneyland Resort guests claimed they had similar experiences with theme park entry cast members questioning their appearance.

“Cast members HATE seeing people come in with different hair colors all the time,” @jupeeeessss wrote. “Especially vivids. They fume that you don’t keep the same hair color and assume you’re stealing someone’s key.”

“Had something similar happen to me and the lead was called and [they] told the CM you look at the face not the hair,” @teatraybat1 recalled. “I definitely would have gone to guest relations about this. It’s not appropriate at all.”

“The guest calmly responded that Luke is a boy, explaining that people often mistake him for a girl because of his long hair.” The mother’s own words. Here’s an idea, Mom…get the kid a haircut! Be a parent for crying out loud! Rather than walking around with a chip on your shoulder, do the responsible thing and take a preventive measure to protect the boy from further misgendering. Sheesh…
