Disney Cast Members are doing some amazing things. It has always been important to The Walt Disney Company to give back. With their partnership with companies like Make-A-Wish, children are at the forefront of receiving those benefits. Disney has partnered with two organizations in their own backyard to help children throughout the summer as well as the beginning of school.

While Disney World is named the most magical place on earth. Brevard County nearby struggles with children’s hunger. With Disney Crusie Line’s home base in Port Canaveral, Cast Members are giving back to support the local students. “The Children’s Hunger Project provides weekend and summer meals to local children in the county to fight childhood hunger and malnutrition,” Disney writes.

Disney Cruise Line makes a difference when working with The Children’s Hunger Project and Brevard Schools Foundation. For many students, their food source is primarily from school, so when school’s out for the summer, that’s when meals become crucial. According to The Children’s Hunger Project, “Childhood hunger leads to children having a weaker immune system and difficulty in learning and paying attention in class.”

Luckily, that is where Disney has been able to step in. Cast Members volunteered to put together over 500 meals for students in the local area. The meals included “kid favorites like breakfast bars, apple sauce, fruit cups, canned meals, crackers, and juice.” For Cast Members, it was enjoyable to spend time with their team, working towards a goal. The crew captain, Captain Marco, of Disney Wish, mentioned, “I’m very proud of my crew because they work hard and are volunteering here during their time off.”

Including the packaged meals, a donation will continue to assist students throughout the school year to ensure students have food not only to eat but enjoy. Volunteers also spent their summer packaging school supplies as students and teachers gear up to return for a new academic year.
