In 1998, Disney shook up the cruise industry by dipping their toe in the water. They brought the magic of their theme parks to the sea and created an experience unlike anything else in the industry. By incorporating unique themed dining, exceptional service, character meet-and-greets, broadway style shows, fireworks at sea, and a trip to their private island Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise line created a truly unique experience.

This year, Disney Cruise Line celebrates its 25th anniversary with various unique offerings and experiences. Guests sailing this summer will notice new changes aboard all five ships (Disney Magic, Disney Wish, Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Dream).

New Character Looks

The color of this unique celebration is Shimmering Seas. To honor the silver anniversary and the color, Disney friends are donning all-new outfits. Captain Mickey Mouse, Captain Minnie Mouse, and the rest of the crew will be wearing designs that feature swirling patterns reminiscent of ocean waves and multi-toned fabric.

Entertainment Ahoy!

Fireworks at sea-a Disney Cruise Line tradition-is continuing this summer on itineraries that are four nights or longer (Bahamas, Caribbean, and Mediterranean cruises). However, this year, the night skies will light up with a brand new show honoring the Disney legacy of adventure. The new show will be set to classic Disney music and incorporate a new signature song.

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
