The Disney Cruise Line has just confirmed their purchase of the Global Dream, a new ship that will sustain around 6,000 passengers and up to 2,300 Cast Members on board. The D purchase seems at odds with a recent memo from CEO that the Company will soon have to enact harsh job cuts due to financial issues.

Disney has operated the Disney Cruise Line (DCL) since 1996, when it was incorporated as “Magical Cruise Company, Limited” and launched its first ship, the Disney Wish. Since then, the subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company now boasts a total of five ships (, , Disney Fantasy, and to name a few)… and they’ve just added one more!
The 208,000-gross-ton vessel will be one of the first to run on green methanol fuel, which reduces the global impact of emissions created through travels to vacation destinations and general operations for the Disney Cruise ship. However, German construction crews had only partially completed the Global Dream when Disney purchased the cruise liner with the intent to “bring the magic of a Disney Cruise Line vacation to new global destinations.”
In fact, Disney has announced plans to reimagine specific elements of the new ship in order to align it more closely with the imaginative theming present in all their current cruise vessels, courtesy of the artisans at Walt Disney Imagineering.
The ship was under construction until 2024 for Dream Cruises, a travel destination subsidiary owned by parent company Genting Hong Kong, and was the first of two GLOBAL models within that class unit. As of yet, details regarding the exact reason Genting Hong Kong sold the Global Dream to the Disney Cruise Line are unknown.

Obviously, Disney will rename the Global Dream, which they say will be based out of the United States after joining the DCL fleet. Of course, this is because they already own and operate the popular Disney Dream ship. Says Disney, this new addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet will:
feature innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart.
