Disney+ Cuts Three Shows, Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ Fans Disappointed

While the influx of new franchise television series has drastically slowed down since Bob Iger’s return to the head of The Walt Disney Company, studios like Marvel and Lucasfilm are still putting out a plethora of content. Some fans, though, noticed that three upcoming shows were cut from Disney+’s latest announcement.

Disney+ has been active since late 2019. A savior for Disney fans living through the pandemic, Disney’s extensive media library was made accessible to anyone with a subscription. From classic movies like Walt Disney’s first feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to a host of original content like The Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Disney+ combines the many studios under the House of Mouse.

Over the years, the streaming service has undergone extensive changes, including the service’s cost and the purging of multiple titles. Looking ahead, with Disney now in full control of Hulu, the biggest change may be yet to come as the services are seemingly on the precipice of combining.

So far this year, Disney+ has gained multiple new titles, like the latest Star Wars series Andor and the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe addition, Ironheart. Now, half way through 2025, The Walt Disney Company has shared a new sizzle reel of shows still to hit the streamer–but a few confirmed releases were noticeably absent.

While the sizzle reel advertised upcoming projects like Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair starring Glenn Close and Kim Kardashian, the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, the Glen Powell-starring Chad Powers, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, and Alien: Earth, a handful of Marvel and Star Wars shows were not included. The sizzle did, however, give glimpses of Wonder Man, coming later this winter under the Marvel Spotlight banner.

Shows not included were Marvel Studios’ animated shows, Marvel Zombies and Eyes of Wakanda, in addition to Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Visions–Volume 3.

As it stands, Marvel Zombies–a spinoff to Marvel’s What If…?–is set to debut on October 3 with four episodes. It will be rated TV-MA, similar to 2025’s big superhero release, Daredevil: Born Again. Another MCU project, Eyes of Wakanda, is scheduled for August and will debut in its entirety. The Black Panther spinoff series is developed by Ryan Coogler and created by Todd Harris. It will be the first series in Marvel Phase Six, following the Phase’s first movie release, The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), in late July.

When it comes to Lucasfilm, Star Wars recently celebrated its critically acclaimed second season run of Andor. The 12-episode series was lauded for its performances, writing, and structure, and will go down in history as one of the highest-rated Star Wars projects in history. The debut of Andor Season 2 came after the controversial run of The Acolyte and the lukewarmly received Skeleton Crew. During its run, Lucasfilm also released the third installment in the Tales ofanthology, with Tales of the Underworld.

Also absent from the Disney+ sizzle reel was Star Wars: Visions–Volume 3, another anthology series. However, unlike Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire, and Tales of the Underworld, Visions is set outside the main Star Wars continuity, existing in the universe but not related to the canon. The third series of Star Wars: Visions is slated for October 29, 2025.
