As guests gather inside the Galaxarium briefing room, actor Terry Crews appears on screen as Centurion Tal Marik of the Nova Corps. Welcoming Earth visitors, he hesitates while pondering what citizens call themselves: “Does anyone know what they call themselves? Epcoters? Epcotians? Citizens of EPCOT?”

For over two years, that intentional two-second pause was rarely quiet. Instead, groups of rowdy parkgoers would scream “ALCOHOLICS!” or “DAY DRINKERS!” at the top of their lungs. What started as an organic joke quickly turned into a viral social media trend—and an ongoing headache for families and Cast Members.

Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has quietly edited the preshow video to end the shouting once and for all.

How Imagineering Muted the Shouting

When Cosmic Rewind opened in May 2022, Centurion Tal Marik’s pause was designed as a lighthearted MCU comedic beat. Originally, it allowed room for harmless guest interjections like “Humans!” or “Disney fans!”

However, as the “Alcoholics” response took over room after room, parents voiced frustration online about having to explain the term to young children in line for a family roller coaster. Frequent riders also complained that rowdy crowds were constantly hijacking the attraction’s storyline.

To fix the issue without bringing Terry Crews back for an expensive studio reshoot, Imagineering editors made a precise digital cut to the video file. By trimming the empty pause and splicing the audio track, Tal Marik now moves instantly from asking his question to listing his suggestions.

The edit is so seamless that first-time riders will never realize a gap existed. If a guest attempts to shout “Alcoholics!” today, Tal Marik immediately speaks over them, deflating the joke before it can take off.

Driven by EPCOT’s Day-Drinking Culture

The shouting trend was a direct symptom of EPCOT’s massive cultural transformation over the past two decades.

Once an educational park focused on science and technology, EPCOT has evolved into Walt Disney World’s premier adult dining and nightlife destination. With year-round events like the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, the park heavily promotes global beverage offerings.

This shift fueled the viral fan tradition “Drinking Around the World,” where adult guests sample alcoholic drinks across all 11 World Showcase pavilions—from margaritas in Mexico to craft beers in Canada. Complete with matching group t-shirts and online fan clubs, day drinking has become a central part of EPCOT’s identity.

While highly profitable for Disney, the mix of alcohol, Florida heat, and long lines often leads to rowdy crowd behavior. The preshow shouting was a clear case of World Showcase’s party atmosphere spilling into World Discovery’s family rides.

A Win for Disney Families

Disney’s subtle preshow update is being celebrated by parents and parkgoers alike. By implementing a simple, software-based fix, Imagineering eliminated a major point of guest friction without altering the ride’s story, teleportation effects, or randomized soundtrack.

The edit sends a clear message: while adults are welcome to enjoy World Showcase’s drinks, saving the galaxy will stay fun, immersive, and family-friendly for everyone.
