In the summer of 2020, Christina Hodson, the screenwriter of Birds of Prey (2020), announced that a new Pirates of the Caribbean film was in the works due to the DC film’s success.

However, two years later, Margot Robbie has just revealed that the film has been scrapped, and we have no idea why. In her recent interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke on the film’s cancellation, saying:

We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led-not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story-which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it.

But despite these feminism-forward updates, there is no female-led Pirates of the Caribbean story coming to the big screen.
