Disney Just Retired These ‘Toy Story’ Characters at Hollywood Studios

If you’ve visited Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the past few months, you may have noticed Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear looking a little different than usual. Back in July, the three characters debuted special Toy Story 5 looks, each with a small new detail tied to the upcoming film. Now, those limited-time looks have officially been retired. Woody, Jessie, and Buzz have returned to their classic costumes at Hollywood Studios, with all of their original details back where they belong.

For longtime fans, this is a return to the versions of these characters that have been part of Toy Story Land since it opened. Woody’s red bandanna poncho, Jessie’s sheriff badge, and Buzz’s star sticker are gone, and the familiar outfits that guests know and love are back in action. It’s a small change, but for character fans who love collecting photos of every costume variation, it’s a fun one to keep track of.

And the costume changes may not be finished yet. With the holiday season right around the corner, festive looks could be coming soon. Here’s everything you need to know about the return of the classic costumes, where to meet the characters, and what to expect next.

A Quick Look Back at the Toy Story 5 Costumes

Walt Disney World introduced the Toy Story 5 costumes in July. Each of the three characters received one new detail:

  • Woody: A red bandanna poncho
  • Jessie: A sheriff badge on her vest
  • Buzz Lightyear: A star sticker on his chest panel

These additions were meant to be temporary, giving guests a limited-time way to celebrate the film. Now, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has retired those looks and brought back the original costumes.

Woody Is Back in His Classic Outfit

With the poncho gone, Woody’s yellow plaid shirt and cow-print vest are fully visible again. His red bandana is back around his neck, and his sheriff badge, belt buckle, and holster are all in place.

In recent photos, Woody looked as cheerful as ever, tipping his hat to guests as he walked through Toy Story Land. It’s the classic Woody look fans have been seeing for years, and it’s great to have it back.

Jessie Returns to Her Signature Look

Jessie’s vest no longer has the sheriff badge she wore during the Toy Story 5 period. Without it, her yellow collar and cuffs stand out as the brightest parts of her outfit.

Her red hat with white stitching and her cow-print chaps complete the look. Jessie was spotted waving to guests as she and Woody made their way along the path together, bringing the same energy she’s known for.

Buzz Lightyear Ditches the Star Sticker

Buzz’s chest panel no longer has the star sticker that was part of his Toy Story 5 costume. The Space Ranger logo and yellow Lightyear label are still there, of course, along with his white, green, and purple suit and the row of blue, green, and red buttons.

Buzz greeted guests with a wave as he headed to his meet-and-greet location, looking every bit like the Space Ranger fans remember from the original films.

Where to Meet Woody, Jessie, and Buzz

The costumes may have changed, but the meet-and-greet locations are the same.

  • Woody and Jessie: Meet together near Toy Story Mania
  • Buzz Lightyear: Meets separately closer to the entrance of Toy Story Land

If you’re hoping to meet all three during your visit, plan to stop at both spots. Since they meet in different areas, it’s a good idea to check the My Disney Experience app for times and plan your route through Toy Story Land.

Holiday Costumes Could Be Next

With the Toy Story 5 looks retired, many fans are wondering what’s next. If past years are any indication, holiday costumes could be on the way.

Woody, Jessie, and Buzz all wore festive outfits during the 2023 holiday season. Those holiday costumes debuted in 2018, the first year Toy Story Land had holiday decorations.

Other characters at Hollywood Studios joined in on the festive fun that year too. Max Goof and Donald Duck met guests at Echo Lake with a light holiday touch, and Chip ’n’ Dale and Daisy appeared near the Chinese Theater in their holiday attire.

Similar festive looks are expected this season, though it’s not yet known which characters will change or when the holiday costumes will appear.

Tips for Meeting the Toy Story Characters

If you want to see Woody, Jessie, and Buzz in their classic costumes before any holiday changes arrive, here are a few tips:

  • Visit soon. Holiday costumes could replace the classic looks in the coming weeks.
  • Check the app. Meet-and-greet times can change throughout the day.
  • Plan for two stops. Woody and Jessie meet near Toy Story Mania, while Buzz is closer to the Toy Story Land entrance.
  • Have your camera ready. The characters often interact with guests as they walk to their meet spots.

Classic Looks Are Back for Now

The Toy Story 5 costumes were a fun limited-time addition, but there’s something special about seeing Woody, Jessie, and Buzz in the outfits that made them famous. Whether you’re a longtime Toy Story fan or visiting Toy Story Land for the first time, the return of the classic costumes is a great reason to stop by for a photo.

Just don’t wait too long. With the holidays approaching, these classic looks may soon make way for something a little more festive.
